For this role, we are very happy to consider both consultant and locum consultant applications.
We have an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, our staff survey results are one of the best in the country, we are leaders in digital maturity, and we have a mature Quality Improvement (QI) approach to innovation and development. We are also very popular with the trainee doctors, are viewed as extremely helpful, supportive, and get excellent feedback.
For International Medical Graduates, we will support you to get Section 12 and Approved Clinician status and, in the longer term via CESR, we will support you to become substantive consultants on the GMC specialist register. That being said, we treat all of our consultants the same, and as far as we are concerned, a consultant is a consultant whether they are on the specialist register or not.
For consultants, there is the chance to pursue your own interests, so if they lie in R&D, QI, or management & leadership, we will support you.
In 2021, Berkshire Healthcare was 4th out of the 48 community and mental health trusts for the number of research projects we recruited to. We have refreshed our research strategy and are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to develop and implement the Trust's research programme.
QI: The Trust is very active in terms of quality improvement, including the opportunity to gain fully accredited QI qualifications.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join us as we develop a CAMHS Learning Disabilities service for Berkshire.
This is a new service development, and ideally, we are looking for a full-time consultant to work in a county-wide service. However, we are open to applicants seeking part-time hours and would be happy to discuss this further.
We would encourage interested applicants to contact Dr. Tamsin Marshall, Medical Lead for CAMHS (07990 946840), and/or Sharon Brookes, CAMHS Service Manager (07870 365856), for more information and informal discussions about the service.
Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust is committed to improving the experience and outcomes of children, young people, and families across Berkshire. CAMH services sit within an integrated directorate that brings together all our Universal, Specialist Physical and Mental Health, and Neurodiversity services for Children, Young People, and Families (CYPF). Our services for adults with a learning disability are also part of this directorate, and adult Neurodiversity Services are joining us from 2023. We work closely together across the directorate, integrating services to enable improved care to children, young people, and families where it makes sense to do so.
About us
This is a newly created service to serve the population of children and young people with mental health and learning disability needs.
Berkshire Healthcare CAMHS runs a clinical care pathway model delivering evidence-based treatment for anxiety & mood disorders, trauma, mania, psychosis, and eating disorders. Crisis and risk support is provided by the CAMHS Rapid Response Team, and the service runs a Tier 4 alternative to admission unit that provides intensive day care and home treatment as part of the Thames Valley Provider Collaborative.
We are an innovative and forward-thinking service. Other new developments currently underway include a new service for Children in Care, a key working service for children with learning disabilities and/or autism, and a vanguard pilot as part of the framework for integrated care.
All CAMH and Neurodiversity services currently operate from two integrated hubs for Children, Young People, and Family Service: Erlegh House in Reading and Fir Tree House in Slough, with locality bases in Newbury, Wokingham, Bracknell, and Maidenhead.
The service works closely with multi-agency partners across East (Slough, Bracknell, and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead) and West Berkshire (Wokingham, Reading, and Newbury) and is co-located with the Community Paediatric Services for East and West Berkshire.
