My client is a leading UK rail contractor specialising in delivering innovative and high-quality infrastructure solutions. From canopy upgrades to structures over rail and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) works, they are known for our technical expertise and commitment to excellence.

The Role

As a Freelance Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM), you will lead and oversee engineering activities across a range of high-profile rail projects. You'll be responsible for ensuring technical compliance, delivering solutions efficiently, and managing multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage engineering activities for projects, including canopy upgrades, structures over rail, and M&E systems.
• Act as the primary engineering contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
• Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, CDM regulations, and other industry requirements.
• Develop and implement engineering management plans, risk assessments, and assurance processes.
• Coordinate design, construction, and technical interfaces across all disciplines.
• Drive quality, safety, and innovation throughout project delivery.

About You

They're looking for a confident and experienced professional with the technical expertise to take charge of challenging engineering projects on a freelance basis.

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) or in a similar role within the rail sector.
• In-depth knowledge of rail infrastructure, including canopy upgrades, structures over rail, and M&E systems.
• Strong understanding of Network Rail standards and procedures.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards it).
• Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
