Overall purpose of the Job:
You will be responsible for leading a small team providing a range of wholesome, homemade meals through nursery meals, counter sales and buffets. You will ensure that a friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout the kitchen and café area appeals to customers of all ages.
You will also work as part of that team delivering a wide variety of quality catering services. You will provide a professional friendly and efficient service to the Centres customers whilst maintaining the highest standards at all times. You will ensure best practice of all the required hygiene and health and safety standards in line with current legislation, polices and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To ensure that sufficient staff and volunteers are available to deliver the required service on a day to day basis.
To cash up and reconcile the daily takings and collate the weekly takings all in line with Light Bite procedures. To monitor the café prices against the general café expenditure to ensure the profit margins are maintained, and check the till receipts against actual takings
To record, collate and communicate the nursery meal numbers, buffet provision details and refreshment orders to the BCT admin on a weekly basis.
To line manage the Catering Assistant (where appropriate) and supervise the day to day operations of the kitchen
To hold regular Progress and Planning meetings with the Catering Assistant (where appropriate)
To conduct the annual appraisal of the Catering Assistant (where appropriate)
To provide a two course, healthy and appetizing meal for nursery children between the ages of 1 and 5 years on a daily basis
To co-ordinate food preparation for counter sales and business buffets
To serve customers and take payment in accordance with the finance procedures
To serve nursery meal and buffets to clients and to collect and clean areas when appropriate
To train and support the catering assistant (where appropriate) in cooking skills, procedures and best practice
To ensure good practice of all required Health and Safety and Hygiene standards within the café, in line with current legislation, policies and procedures
To plan menus for the café and business buffets
To ensure the required daily records are maintained keep
To order appropriate stock to ensure levels of service are maintained at all times.
To be responsible for receiving and checking all deliveries ensuring stock rotation is adhered to and stock checks are preformed on a regular basis
Take responsibility for volunteers when they are working within the café environment.
Deal, in the first instance, with any incident or complaint that may occur, referring matters to the Cook Supervisor
Any other duties as may be allocated by the Cook Supervisor in line with the level and nature of the post
Being prepared if required to work at any other café under Beaver Community Trusts control
Keep Café area clean and tidy in accordance with hygiene and health and safety regulations.
Co-ordinate daily clean down procedure of the café
Ability to communicate at all levels including customers, staff, volunteers, suppliers, colleagues at all levels of seniority and Local Authority officers.

Terms and Conditions:
NB: this is a summery of the contract that will be issued for signature by the successful candidate
Status: Full time, permanent (after a probationary period of 3 months)
Hours:37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00- 4:00 ( hour lunch)
Wages:
Annual
Leave:20 days per annum, to be authorised by the Line Manager. Only one member of staff may take leave at any one time
Notice:1 Month by either side
The Willow Centre has a NO SMOKING policy within the building and on the grounds of the centre and church grounds.
Qualifications Level 3 Food Safety in Catering
Health
Safety in the Workplace Level 2
Healthier Food and Special Diets Level 2
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points
Willingness to attend further training
First Aid Trained
Awareness of relevant Health and Safety Legislation including COSHH
Staff/Catering Management Experience
Skills & Experience Have an ability to cook well with a good understanding of nutrition and a commitment to healthy eating
Ability to deal with matters in a professional and confidential manner
Good communication skills especially with an ability to relate to a wide range of people
Have a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace
An understanding of the financial procedures needed to deal with contracts, suppliers, orders, delivery notes and invoices
Previous experience within catering
Computer skills for e mail, internet and word processing.
