Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our small, close-knit team. In this role, you will be at the core of our day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our datacentre. Your responsibilities will include providing technical remote hands assistance to customers, supporting our critical infrastructure through daily walkaround checks, performing rack and derack requests, swapping hardware components, troubleshooting network connections, and delivering any other necessary support to keep the datacentre running optimally.

Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management: Design, build, manage, and maintain datacentre infrastructure, including racks, servers, cabling, and networking equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Equipment Installation: Perform installations of compute, network, storage devices, racks, PDUs, and cabling with precision and attention to detail.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team of Data Centre Operations (DCO) Engineers to monitor and manage daily ticket queues, ensuring rapid and effective response to any urgent issues within the datacentres.
Inventory Management: Ensure the accuracy of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) by maintaining up-to-date records of all onsite equipment, including inventory items.
Facility Maintenance: Execute both routine and ad-hoc maintenance, installations, and migrations across the site, ensuring smooth operation and minimal downtime.
Documentation: Maintain and continuously improve on-site documentation to ensure clarity and accessibility for all team members.
Monitoring: Proactively monitor systems to identify potential issues before they become critical, ensuring the highest level of operational efficiency.
Customer Support: Fulfill smart-hands requests and provide remedial support for customers, including system reboots and checks.
Security Compliance: Adhere strictly to physical security procedures and policies to maintain the safety and integrity of the datacentre environment.
Requirements
Education: College-level qualification or equivalent in a related technical field (e.g., IT, Computing), along with a valid driving license or the ability to reliably travel to the workplace in a timely manner.
Skills: Strong communication and organizational abilities, with a structured approach to planning and documentation. Ability to work effectively within a close-knit team environment.
Location & Availability: Must be able to travel to our Leeds datacentre for all shifts. Willingness to work a 4-on, 4-off continental shift pattern, alternating between 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am, including weekends and bank holidays. Due to the nature of this position, remote or hybrid work is not available, and onsite presence is required.
Technical Expertise:
Basic understanding of Linux OS (e.g., network debugging, file structure navigation, command line skills).
Basic knowledge of Windows OS (e.g., network configuration, remote desktop setup).
Fundamental networking principles and technologies (e.g., VLANs, routing, switching).
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with network diagrams.
Understanding of hosting technologies and their applications in a hosted environment.
Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PHP, Perl, JavaScript).
