Applications are invited for doctors with suitable qualifications and experience to work as a full-time clinical fellow in the Department of Dermatology at Beckenham Beacon, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is an ideal post for applicants intending to pursue a career in dermatology. The post holder will gain experience in a wide range of clinical activities, acquiring a sound foundation in the key elements of dermatology practice such that they should be in a strong position to apply for a National Training Number in Dermatology. The post does not attract any on-call banding as the working hours are standard core working hours. This is a fixed term position for 12 months.
You will work as part of a Multidisciplinary team to help provide the outpatient Dermatology service at Beckenham Beacon and inpatient Dermatology consultations at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and Orpington Hospital. The post holder will do general dermatology, paediatric dermatology and 2 week wait skin cancer clinics under supervision. You will also (depending on experience) carry out skin surgery procedures. The post holder is the first port of call for inpatient dermatology consultations, receiving referrals from other teams based at the PRUH and Orpington hospital. You will either provide advice remotely (using clinical photographs) or will be responsible for arranging face-to-face review at Beckenham Beacon. If necessary, you will make visits to the wards to review the patients, perform skin biopsies and plan treatment. This work is supervised by some of the dermatology consultants and a Specialty Doctor. The post holder will join the weekly skin cancer Multidisciplinary Team meetings, where skin cancer cases are discussed with other clinical colleagues, and a monthly regional special cases meeting, where difficult clinical cases are discussed. The post holder will also participate in departmental operational and governance meetings and audit activities. There is also opportunity to attend the Royal Society of Medicine Dermatology Section meetings and the St John’s Dermatological Society meetings.
