Title: Design Manager

Salary: �60-70k + car or car allowance

Location: Golborne

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed

Employment Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the business as the Designated Individual for Temporary Works in accordance with BS 5975, overseeing procedure management, staff appointments, and subcontractor reviews.
  • Lead the creation, approval, and delivery of Temporary Works Solutions, particularly stress assessments using steel, timber, and polymers.
  • Utilise Finite Element Analysis for structural assessments.
  • Develop 2D and 3D models/drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Perform line management duties for the growing design team in accordance with company policy.
  • Act as the process owner for design-related activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations Lead, Project Managers, and Commercial Manager to ensure the technical function is effective and efficient on all live projects.
  • Review alternative construction methods and practices.
  • Stay updated on new and innovative products.
  • Assist in managing and compiling overall project plans.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure designs for planning applications comply with statutory and client design standards.
  • Organise and manage technical coordination workshops, package reviews, and design team meetings.
  • Translate conceptual schemes into efficient and workable commercial solutions.
  • Oversee document control related to the registration and distribution of design and technical information.
  • Work with key project team members to prepare project costing and design works.
  • Review tenders as part of the bid team to assess the quality of received information, identify value engineering opportunities, and prepare contractors' proposals.
  • Interrogate consultants' and subcontractors' drawings, holding package review meetings with relevant site team members.
  • Keep the Contracts Manager informed of all design and technical issues that may impact productivity and progress.
  • Monitor production information and consultant activities against budgetary allowances, reporting any variances.
  • Ensure the company's commitment to world-class Health and Safety is reflected in all aspects of your work.
  • Ensure all design aspects are fully coordinated.
  • Monitor changes from clients, design consultants, subcontractors, and proposed changes by the construction team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience delivering design solutions from first principles.
  • MEng/MSc in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Structural, Civil).
  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Prior experience as a Design/Engineering Manager is preferred.
  • Familiarity with National Grid/Cadent/SGN/NGN specifications and design procedures such as BS 5975, Eurocodes, etc.
  • Strong management skills covering staff, clients, commercial, and program management.
  • Willingness to travel; a full UK Driving Licence is essential.
