Design Manager - Plymouth

Rate: �350 per day

Contract Role- 3 months

Our client, a leading UK construction main contractor, is seeking an experienced Design Manager to oversee the design process for a large-scale hospital project in Plymouth. This role will involve managing the design from tender stage through to the start of construction, ensuring cost-effective and innovative solutions while maintaining project efficiency and compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative design solutions aligned with client requirements.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations throughout the design phase.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, design teams, and key stakeholders to resolve any design queries.
  • Oversee contractor proposals, tender documentation, and design submissions.
  • Apply value engineering principles to ensure cost-effective design solutions.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks, ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Lead design team meetings and ensure timely delivery of design information.
  • Support bid management processes from initial enquiry to contract award.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, BREEAM, and Passivhaus standards.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant construction discipline (essential).
  • Strong technical construction knowledge and understanding of building regulations.
  • Proven experience in design management within large-scale construction projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is essential.
  • Experience with Powerproject Teamplan or similar planning software (desirable).
  • Knowledge of estimating software such as Causeway (desirable).
  • Professional qualification (e.g., MCIOB) is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
