We are working with a fast-growing defense technology company based in California, recently backed by significant funding. Specializing in cutting-edge solutions in the defense sector, the company is at the forefront of innovation, with a particular focus on advanced drone technology and other defense-related systems. As they enter the next phase of their expansion, they are seeking a dynamic Director of Business Development to spearhead their commercial and strategic initiatives.
About the role of - Director of Business Development:-
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for driving growth through strategic partnerships, government contracts, and new market opportunities. You will lead all commercial activities, shaping the business development strategy and helping the company to scale. This role is ideal for an experienced leader with a strong background in the defense industry and a proven track record of success in business development, sales, and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's growth objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the defense and aerospace sectors, including government contracts, commercial partnerships, and new markets.
  • Lead contract negotiations with government and private sector clients, ensuring mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including military, defense contractors, and industry influencers.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to adapt strategies and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align product development and capabilities with market demands and customer needs.
  • Drive revenue growth through strategic partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures.
  • Lead and mentor a team of business development professionals, guiding them through complex deals and long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and other business development events.

Ideal Qualifications for Director of Business Development:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership roles within the defense, aerospace, or government contracting sectors.
  • Proven track record of winning and managing large government contracts (e.g., DoD, DARPA, NASA) and building successful partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of the defense market, procurement processes, and regulatory environment.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and lead complex deals from inception to completion.
  • Experience managing teams and driving commercial success in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet clients and partners.
