Ascend Airways operate a small fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft (NG and MAX) in the ACMI market and opened its first operational base at London Gatwick in early 2024. The company is founded on the legacy of Synergy Aviation, a respected UK AOC holder, which has been acquired by Avia Solutions Group, already the world’s largest ACMI provider with over 200 airliners in operation.
The Director of Flight Operations (DFO) is a pivotal role to Ascend Airways leadership team, contributing towards our ongoing success and supporting us achieve our 2025 growth plans. The DFO holds responsibility over ensuring continued delivery in department objectives, goals, and performance. The DFO will ensure safe and sufficient operations, with a strong focus on continuous improvement to our standards.
Responsibilities:
Strategic management of the Flight Ops department, delegating responsibility to the Deputy Director where necessary.
Directing and overseeing the work and management of all roles within the Flight Ops department.
Continuously monitor and ensure compliance with CAA regulations, and any other relevant legislation that may affect air operations. Directly liaising with the UK CAA on any matters that may affect our AOC.
Supervision of incident management, ensuring that the appropriate enquiries are conducted in the event of incidents involving our fleet.
Championing health and safety standards and lead by example. Participate in safety and strategy reviews.
Report on important departmental updates at weekly management meetings.
Monitor and control operational efficiency standards.
Maintain key relationships both internally with Ascend Airways departments, as well as with third parties and our clients and customers.
The Ideal Candidate will have the following experience and attributes:
This is a senior position where the individual will require excellent skills in leadership, strategic support, compliance, and safety. The individual must also be able to demonstrate experience and in depth understanding of the following areas:
Experience as a Boeing Pilot.
Flight operations leadership experience.
Experience in a senior management position and the active running of a busy team within the aviation industry.
Experience with Pilot recruitment processes and procedures, including knowledge of sim testing.
A background in training within aviation is desirable but not essential.
