Our office is in the Southwark area, and we expect our team members to come in a couple days a week to the office.Start date: As soon as possible, but we know this can be difficult when factoring in notice periods, so we are open to have the right person join a little later.Travel requirements: In this role you will be expected to travel once a quarter to our HQ in Lagos.About the role: As the Director of Operations, Payments at Moniepoint GB, you will play a critical role in shaping and managing our payments operations for our UK business, which is the lifeblood of our business. Reporting directly to the VP of Payments, you will lead a team responsible for various payment operations activities, including dispute management, settlement and reconciliation, chargebacks, and fund recovery. This role will involve close collaboration with compliance to ensure adherence to UK regulatory requirements and will require travel to Nigeria to meet, hire, train and lead the offshore team.If you have a hands-on approach to payment operations, significant experience in managing multicultural teams, and a knack for setting up efficient operations from scratch, this position is for you!Responsibilities:Build from scratch and lead payment operations, including dispute management, settlement and reconciliation, chargebacks, and fund recovery for the UK headquartered, global business.Travel as necessary (quarterly) to Nigeria and other regions to support and build the team, particularly in the early stages. We have our main company headquarters in Lagos, and already have a well established business and team locally, so you will have support locally when building out your department.Set up and manage a team in Nigeria and beyond, ensuring effective and efficient payment operations support.Develop and implement processes to ensure smooth and compliant payment operations, working closely with the compliance team.Establish and maintain strong relationships with the VP of Product - Payments, and other senior stakeholders to drive the success of the payments function.Coach, mentor, and hold team members accountable, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.Ensure full compliance with UK regulatory requirements and industry best practices.Monitor and analyze operational metrics to drive efficiency, reduce chargebacks, and resolve disputes effectively.Strategically expand your team as we grow to other markets and product offerings to include other verticals like cards and other regions beyond the UK and Nigeria.Provide input into the development and customization of internal tools to improve payment processing and dispute handling efficiency and effectiveness.Transition from an operational focus to a strategic one as time goes on, continuously improving payment processes and contributing to the overall growth strategy.Manage and inspire a diverse, distributed team, navigating cultural differences and promoting an inclusive work environment.Qualifications:Extensive experience in building and managing payment operations and teams for a regulated fintech in the UK, with direct hands on experience managing all of the areas mentioned above, which includes dispute management, settlement and reconciliation, chargebacks, and funds recovery.You are based in the UK, and you can start as soon as possible (August or September start date would be awesome).You have worked in an early stage fast paced fintech start-up or scale-up.
