Established in 1889, the Lowe and Fletcher Group employs over 1,000 employees across its Locking Systems and Fire Systems Divisions worldwide. We are seeking an exceptional Operations Director for our Wednesbury site, part of the Locking Systems Division (the LSD), which represents approximately two thirds of the Lowe and Fletcher Group.The Wednesbury operation designs, manufactures and sells locks and locking devices within the UK and export markets including the Middle East and Australia. Products are also sent to sister companies who serve the rest of the world. Employing over 200 people, it has full manufacturing processes including primary (die-casting and presswork) and assembly (barrel assembly, key cutting) operations. Wednesbury is the LSD’s centre of excellence for electronic products and the UK market leader in several segments including lockers and metal office furniture.As Operations Director for the Wednesbury operation, your responsibilities will include:Ensuring the business operates in a safe manner and aspires to zero accidents within the facility and in any activity carried out by its employees.Manufacturing the extensive range of locking products for supply to external and Group customers.Creating and driving a comprehensive manufacturing strategy with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.Developing annual budgets for all operational areas and ensuring that the core budget cost centres are tracked, and objectives adhered to.Managing the capital expenditure of the business.Ensuring that the quality requirements are consistently met, and a culture of continuous improvement is established.Ensuring that customers’ orders are consistently met in line with committed lead-times, maintaining excellent on-time delivery.Managing the supply chain of products from external suppliers and sub-contractors, negotiating optimal terms of business and ensuring quality and delivery targets are adhered to.Managing the workflow through the business, maintaining close control of inventory and ensuring that the new ERP system is effectively established.Maintaining the machine park and site facilities from a comprehensive maintenance perspective.Managing the operational workforce of circa 170 employees, driving productivity whilst ensuring that a positive work environment is maintained.Driving the business Lean Development programme in line with the Group strategic ambition and targets.Developing an environmental impact strategy and managing all aspects of its implementation.We are looking for a team player competent and capable of contributing to the improvement of all areas within the business as part of the SLT, not just the operations. You will be an experienced manufacturing individual who can create and drive a step change in operational performance, modernising long-established working practices, whilst maintaining a healthy and positive work culture. Well-versed in general mechanical and electrical production and assembly, and capable of leading a broad management team, driving change and continuous improvement.
