About The Company

Their mission is to engage in long-term relationships that empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to complete their education, avoid anti-social behaviour, and ultimately become independent and confident contributors within their communities. This charity operates in nine inner-city boroughs around London, and the City of London, working with over 4,000 young people each year through education, mentoring, employability, community youth work, sports and the arts.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a comprehensive People Strategy for the company.
  • Engage the members of the Executive Team and Senior Management Team to facilitate cross-departmental collaboration that ensures all financial, IT, governance and HR functions positively support the charity's strategy and operational delivery.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/ expense analysis.
  • Hold strategic oversight of HR at the company.
  • Ensure all HR related policies, procedures, processes, administration and systems are followed, and improved where necessary.
  • Oversee the framework for effective performance management - ensuring managers and staff are equipped with the tools and support to build and maintain high performing teams that can deliver high quality outputsand outcomes.
  • Ensure any HR matters arising are dealt with appropriately, and in more serious cases, doing so in consultation with the CEO and taking legal advice.
  • Create and deliver a Learning and Development strategy and framework that ensures staff members are fully trained, supported and nurtured to be their best.
  • Agree recruitment needs and a connected annual recruitment plan with the Executive Team.
  • Manage the Senior HR Manager.
  • Support managers with role design and evaluation, recruitment and induction, in partnership with the Senior HR Manager.
  • Act as a trustworthy and confidential counsel to staff of all levels as required.
  • Ensure all appropriate governance requirements, policies and procedures are suitably maintained and are used effectively (e.g. Health and Safety, Safeguarding, GDPR) in accordance with statutory and other regulatory requirements and recommendations.
  • Lead on risk management, maintaining the risk register, identifying and communicating the most significant risks to the company's success to the Executive Team, managing shared ownership and mitigation across the Executive Team, the wider organisation and the Trustees.
  • Review all formal finance, HR and IT related procedures, processes and administration, whilst managing and developing the systems in place.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legal requirements and guidance for the charity sector.
  • Oversee and maintain the policy register.
  • Oversee contracted support services, including governance support, financial management and IT.
  • Manage the Head of Finance and their team.
  • Prepare the annual budget in collaboration with the CEO, Director of Fundraising, Director of Youth Work and Head of Finance, consistent with the business plan, and oversee the implementation of budgets so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures, and monitor the use of all funds.
  • In partnership with the Head of Finance, prepare monthly management and quarterly reports incorporating KPIs and commentary.
  • Develop and utilise forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organisation's operational and business plans.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based and departmental accounting.
  • Oversee IT and GDRP to reflect our values and underpin impact.
  • Work with the IT and GDPR Coordinator to ensure that strong infrastructure and support is in place for ICT systems, digital and data management for the company.

Requirements

  • Experience of working in senior leadership in an organisation at least of similar size and complexity and a track record of seeing strategic vision become a reality.
  • Experience in project and/ or operations management and a track record for developing the systems,quality assurance and management that support organisational excellence.
  • Strategic thinker, who is able to grasp detail, with an ability to translate ideas into strategies and deliverable outcomes.
  • Experience of leading an HR function within an organisation, including development and management of HR systems and processes.
  • Experience in building, developing, managing and leading teams effectively, focusing on results delivery.
  • Substantial experience of strategic project design, development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrable project management skills and experience of delivering multiple concurrent programmes, with a track record of successful delivery.
  • Experience in finance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), which inspire confidence, contribute to and further a culture of excellence.
  • Organised, flexible, agile and responsive, with a focus on results.
  • Ability to develop and critically analyse systems and processes to ensure they are as effective and efficient as possible.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
