Diving Life Support Systems - Mechanical Engineer

Position: Diving / Life Support Systems Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Global role Our Client is a global leader in the provision of cutting-edge subsea technology, rental equipment and products. Our Client is also a prominent manufacturer and supplier of deep-sea marine and commercial diving and life support equipment to the oil and gas and related industries globally.We have partnered with our Client to recruit an Mechanical Engineering degree qualified Life Support Systems Design Engineer. This Engineer will utilize the knowledge, skills, creativity, and experience acquired in the field of Mechanical Engineering, to create/design and produce new ideas and concepts for the functionality of company specific products and services. Therefore, existing knowledge and experience of commercial diving and life support systems would essential. The successful incumbent will be based from home with significant global travel required. This global travel would include notable training time (training time in conjunction with experience) in Capetown, South Africa. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, career minded individual, with a strong work ethic, solid professional track record and a commitment to teamwork whom with a B.Eng. / B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. (Marine industry preferable). The following skills are required which must be demonstrated by submitting examples:Role and responsibilities include but may not be limited to:Design of life support equipment and systems (Gas, Fluid and hydraulic) in accordance with requirements of the relevant statutory guidelines and 3rd party codes & standards (IMCA, ABS, DNV, LR, etc.)Develop concept design to facilitate proposals and perform budget costings.Perform calculations and compile design reports for:o Life support systems design and analyses from first principles.o Non-compressible and compressible flow applications from first principles and software analysis.o Heat transfer applications from first principles and software analysis.o Steady and transient states.Produce P&ID / schematic logic drawings and manufacturing drawings as required (Gas, Fluid and hydraulic).Produce SolidWorks designs, conceptual drawings and manufacturing drawings as required.Lead junior designers and draftsman in the design of life support systems and approve designs, design reports and drawings.Co-ordinate design inputs from junior engineers and draftsmen (drawings etc.)Manage sub-contracted designs and integrate design inputs from them.Review and approve drawings and documentation from junior engineers and draftsmen.Capture as-builds & redlines as per ECP process (designs, drawings, BOMS, IR’s, FAT’s etc.).Component identification and selection throughout design processRead and interpret:o 3rd party codes, standards, and associations such as IMCA, ABS, DNV, LR, IMO, ASME, EN, SABS, ISO etc.o Local and international directives / standards / regulations / legislative requiremento Technical drawings, specifications/data sheets, data books, procedures & policies, work standards, test documentation3rd Party submission of design drawings and documents and resolve technical queries and/or comments throughout the design appraisal and production/manufacturing phases of the projectReview, Approve and Produce testing and validation documentation: FAT’s, HAT’s, SAT’s, Inspection Reports, ITP’s (including necessary technical drawings/diagrams).Review, Approve and Produce O&M ManualsOnsite testing & faulting during installation & commissioning phasesLiaise and work closely with Sales, Production, Project, HSE and QA/QC Management teams in execution of duties, local and interbranch.Support industrialization of BOM’s, drawings & related documentationSoftware: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mathcad, Pipe Flow Analysis, MS Office, MS D365 (ERP).Create Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)Knowledge and experience required:You must have proven experience in the design of life support systems for the commercial diving sector. This is non-negotiable. B.Eng. / B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Marine industry-specific preferable).Experience in process & instrumentation system design.Experience in design applications of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics.Experienced in AutoCAD, process & instrumentation (P&ID) SolidWorks modelling and draftingSolid understanding and applying relevant codes such as ASME, ABS, DNV, LRS, IMCA, IMO, etcHigh level of aptitude and experience in the principles of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics.High level of technical competency in the fundamentals of mechanical engineering design and analysis.Hands-on experience in assembly and operation of life support machinery.Hands-on experience in assembly and operation of marine and subsea equipment.Must possess a demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic team environment working under pressure and managing multiple tasks and be goal oriented.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work overtime when required.ISO13485 experience would be advantageous.
