You will be a permanent employee.You will attract a salary of 76,229 plus car and a bonus of 3%Close Date: 07/07/2024We also provide the following additional benefitsAnnual LeavePersonal Pension Plan – Personal contribution rates of 4% or 5% (UK Power Networks will make a corresponding contribution of 8% or 10%)Tenancy Loan Deposit schemeTax efficient benefits: cycle to work schemeSeason ticket loanOccupational Health supportSwitched On – scheme providing discount on hundreds of retailers products.Discounted access to sports and social clubsEmployee Assistance Programme.Job PurposeYou will deliver the engineering activities within their allocated project team to undertake the delivery of Construction requirements relating to the UK Power Networks owned assets and associated infrastructure under the direction of the Construction Manager as part of the Investment Delivery team.You will work with and support the Project Managers, Commissioning Engineer's and other members of the Investment Delivery Management team in the delivery of Our goals and future budget identification and delivery.You will work with the Project Supervisors, electrical fitters and Contractors to undertake and complete the construction and delivery of a portfolio of projects.The Project Engineer will ensure delivery of Capital works Construction projects, Asset Portfolio Plan and Connections as directed by the Construction Manager, oversee the management of substation and cabling construction works. The position holder will work with team members to ensure safety management is maintained throughout all activities during the delivery of the engineering tasks following the UK Power Networks Stay Safe initiative.Principal AccountabilitiesDelivery of the Construction programmes for the UK Power Networks owned assets operating at voltages through the range 400V to 132kVWork with the Project Managers to ensure that all programmes of work are delivered to time, budget and quality driversWork with Project Supervisors and EHV fitters to ensure the delivery of all electrical engineering activitiesHelp manage budgets relating to the construction delivery and meet ongoing goalsAs a team member work to ensure that UK Power Networks goals are achieved especially in Staff engagement and Client satisfactionFollow UK Power Networks Operations and ProceduresOperate HV Distribution Protection SystemsTest and Commission HV Distribution SystemMaintain the Control and Protection SystemsEnsure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Health and Safety policiesDevelop site specific H,S & E proceduresCompliance with UK Power Networks quality policiesOperate and update Asset database in respect of project activitiesResponsible for both reactive and planned construction activitiesPerform fault investigation and repairsModify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substationsEnsure the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activitiesManage all contractors/staff working on siteUndertake additional activities determined by the job level and competencyResponsibilities:Co-ordinate daily construction and maintenance activities with Client / Principal Contractor's ensuring programmes are metObtain quotations from suppliers and raise Purchase Order request with Finance & Governance teamChange Management – ensure early warning notices are brought to the attention of the Project Manager / Commercial Manager & PartnersProvide technical support and act as appoint of reference for the Construction teamWhen deputising for the Construction Manager deliver team briefings and give feed-backIdentify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team/company)Proactively seek continuous improvementWork unsocial hours to respond to faults on systemAssist the Construction Manager in the development of the ongoing Asset Portfolio PlanRepresent UKPN at meetings with clients and contractorsWhen undertaking engineering activities manage the team of employees and contractors for the deliveryWhen undertaking engineering activities manage the compliance with all H&S procedures such as Putting People to Work and Distribution Safety RulesQualificationsEssential:Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules – Preferable 132kV or 33kV however training will be provided to achieve this level of authorisation if authorised at 11kV.Experience in distribution systems through the range 400v to 132kVEducated to a minimum HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalentWorking knowledge of distribution HV SystemsKnowledge of Building Services SystemsRead schematic drawings and understand contentWork in different environmentsIdentify problems, understand main issues and investigate alternativesHold full driving licenceUse Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packagesDesirable:A broad understanding of UK Power Networks directoratesTravel around the Capital Programme's SPN portfolio of projectsHave persuasive negotiating and influencing skillsAbility to manage time and to meet deadlinesTo be skilful in decision-makingRelevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSHKnowledge of Construction Design and Management RegulationsHealth & Safety ResponsibilitiesManagers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations.
