Electrical Design Engineer (EC&I)

Location:Ellesmere Port

Salary: up to £54,000 per annum (dependable on experience)

Hours:40 hours per week- flexible hours

Contract / Permanent:Permanent

Site Based / Office / Remote:This role is predominantly based in Ellesmere Port, with occasional site visits required and up to 2 days per week WFH

Our client is an experienced, independent company with a network of global partnerships. They specialise in integrated process analytical systems, ranging from single sample conditioning systems to complete analyser houses, delivering bespoke solutions for offshore platforms, chemical plants, oil and gas transportation and refinery facilities, steelworks and other industries requiring analyser system integration.

We are looking for 2 Junior and 1 Senior EC&I Design Engineers to support the EC&I team in developing complex electrical schematics and engineering documentation in accordance with the relevant gas networks standards. You will be carrying out ATEX calculations and specify equipment to be used in various hazardous areas. Assist the commissioning team in testing the live systems at Pre-FAT and FAT. Advise the Junior EC&I engineers in Electrical engineering subjects and methodologies (Senior Designer).

Responsibilities:


  • Design: Develop clear and concise drawing and document packs and review existing packs with a keen eye for detail. Be able to assist in compilation of functional design specifications, FAT and SAT documents for analytical and metering systems.
  • Calculations: carry out cable calculations, I.S Loop Calculations (DSDs), AC and DC load schedules, lighting calculations and thermal capacity calculations, and ensure their accuracy.
  • Guidance & Representation: Mentor other EC&I design engineers while confidently representing the company in client-facing scenarios.
  • Collaborative Stance: Collaborate closely with site-based and commissioning engineers, contributing to holistic project perspectives.


  • Process Optimisation: Identify gaps and suggest improvements for enhanced efficiency.
  • Commissioning Support: Offer expertise during pre-FAT and FAT phases with EC&I-related matters.

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Must have at least 5 years' experience - ideally degree qualified or time-served apprenticeship.
  • Must have demonstrable experience working on designs for hazardous areas installations and CompEX EX01-EX04 and/or EX12 modules are advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience on gas analytical and metering systems is highly advantageous but not essential.
  • Should have experience and knowledge of electrical installations in accordance with BS7671 (18th Edition).

Benefits:

Salary up to £54,000 based on experience

Holiday Pay: 25 days holiday plus 8 days bank holiday

Pension Entitlement: 3% employer, 5% employee

Hybrid working: This role is predominantly based in their Ellesmere Port based workshop / office with occasional site visits required. Up to 2 days working from home.

Death in service: 2 x annual salary
