Electrical Design Engineer

Purpose of the Job:To provide expertise in design, and to provide advice relating to clients’ building services system requirements in a variety of building types from schools to commercial offices.To ensure that projects under their control are monitored and controlled in a manner consistent with the commercial aims of the Consultancy.To plan, monitor and control groups of projects within agreed budgeted levels of cost to acceptable quality standards and time limits.Duties and Responsibilities:Under the direction of the Project Director - Mechanical and Electrical Services, provide a full range of design and supervisory engineering services in respect of Electrical Building Services installations.Follow strict guidelines within schools, community centres, swimming pools, etc. ensuring the building is fit for purpose e.g. Lighting, Power Distribution, Fire Alarms, Door Access, Security systems, A/C, BMS control and energy saving system and Sprinkler systems etc.Liaise with Architects to agree proposals to determine the materials needed for all projects and stay within the established budget and to assist with the compilation of annual programmes and capital, together with costing for budgetary purposes.Responsible for the building services design to be fit for purpose and meet safety and energy requirements to current compliance and energy policy and regulation.Continuous research and updating own knowledge with the ever-changing regulations and applying these changes and improvements to all buildings, as well as being responsible for the inspection and approval of existing and new engineering services.Must have a creative way of thinking when it comes to installation and materials and not just follow the normal previous guidance or way of working.Ability to project manage as well as design in-house capital programmes and ensure good relations are maintained between the Engineering, Architecture, Structures and Building Surveying disciplines, as part of the integrated service and ensure that all schemes progress with the greatest efficiency, both in quality and cost.The management of consultants and contractors on major project design and build contracts.To create detailed building services performance briefs and work collectively with all stakeholders to oversee project and as a technical adviser.Accountable for in-house project design and supervision of capital maintenance projects in line with annual programmes from inception to completion providing technical design drawings and specifications along with budget estimates and financial control.To comply with Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations.To become familiar with the Council's policies, particularly Quality Assurance, Investors in People, Personnel matters, Financial Regulations and Standing Orders.Managing own workload, updating forward plan of workload regularly and working to time allocations.Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way
