Engineering Supervisor

Our client a large manufacturer in the local area is looking for an Engineering Supervisor to join their team. 

The main purpose of this role is to take ownership for all aspects involved in the running of an engineering shift, while giving as much support to the Engineering manager as practicable, in the support of running the department.

Main duties will include, but not be limited to;

Health & Safety


  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations, safe working practices as detailed in Risk Assessment, Methods Statements, work instructions, permit to work and guidance from management.
  • Regular weekly audits to be completed on staff working practices, when carrying out Isolation and adhering to controls in permits to work.

Communication


  • Ensure there is effective communication between all members of the team, including staff, management, other Supervisors, other shifts, and departments.
  • Bring about effective hand over between shifts.
  • Effectively communicate with Production staff to ensure breakdowns and maintenance are carried out and managed in a timely and efficient way.
  • Feedback on going work being done, needing done, or completed to the operator or supervisor of the department                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Continuous Improvement


  • Take responsibility for the developing skills of the team through the skills charts, multi skilling individuals and setting up a training programme.
  • Identify areas and new approaches in line with LEAN principles.
  • Improve maintenance efficiencies of the plant, including use of LEAN principles.
  • Improve downtime which may directly reduce running costs.
  • Actively work on reviewing the time schedule for PMs

Shift Expectations


  • All work to be completed as per agreed work plan instruction
  • Follow-up workflow to be followed and effectively communicated between shifts.
  • Time Sheet filled in consistently, timeously, and precise.
  • Every job to be successfully passed on to next shift or continued to be worked on in order to avoid downtime.
  • Parts are to be ordered through the storeman
  • All parts used are to be booked out correctly.
  • Spend time on shift in the units learning about the machinery, what its purpose is, looking at problem areas and working on solutions together with the operator and record progress in E-Maint.
  • Ensure all team members are either actively working or in training and fully engaged during shift.
  • All work equipment used to be returned to the correct storage area and anything damaged or unworking reported on the CMMS

KPIs


  • Unit Downtime reduction
  • Improved uptime performance of main production units
  • Reduce return times to the same job, (fix and forget)
  • Zero Health & Safety Team issues.
  • Planned Dayshift, Backshift and Weekend shift work programme (for your team) e-mailed in advance to Engineering Manager for approval.
  • Identify training needs of team members, produce a training plan
  • Achieve Proactive/ Planned Maintenance target per Backshift week and Weekend period. Achieve Dayshift target on Reactive.

To be successful for this role you must possess a background in industrial mechanical engineering along with an understanding of health and safety. You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Skills and experience required includes;


  • HNC/HND/C&G or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
  • Maintenance experience in hydraulic networks and pipework/ hose assembly would be preferable, but not essential
  • Working on and repairing heavy duty machinery
  • Follow PPM schedules
  • Be able to work safely, under pressure, in a production environment
  • Comfortable e-maintenance system. Computer proficiency
  • Management and Supervisory Experience

Please note this role will involve working 1 in 3 weekends.
