Job DescriptionOur Digital Engineering Function are looking for a Tech Lead. As we embark on a new chapter, evolving the way in which we deliver and support first class banking app platform, we’re looking for an experienced Tech Lead to provide technical leadership and direction to a highly motivated team of multi skilled engineers.At Nationwide we openly put our 15 million members at the centre of every decision we make as a business. Your primary focus will be on leading and developing engineering teams covering a variety of technologies within Digital Engineering (part of CD&I) however, you’ll frequently collaborate with and contribute to the broader Engineering teams of Cloud, Digital and Integration too.You will provide technical leadership and oversight of multiple Digital Engineering teams and you will be a member of the Digital Tech Management Team under the Director of Channels Engineering.At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.What you’ll be doingIn addition to operating at various levels, contributing to the company’s strategic technology direction, defining engineering patterns / standards, leading the delivery of solutions, ensuring quality by demonstrating adherence to governance and guardrails on a day-to-day basis, your responsibilities will include:Supporting the Delivery and Tech Lead in technical decisions/release planning etcLeading multiple development teams being the technical authority in the delivery team’s sprintsWorking with the Scrum Masters and Dev Team Leads for relevant deliveries being responsible for technical oversight and where appropriate, product ownership of the delivery team’s dev backlogsReview business requirements and the technical artifacts required for delivery, accountably for Identifying and implementing technically complex artefacts (e.g problem solving, software development, automation, code review, model based testing, right test approach, ticket resolution, infrastructure and environment design and build etc) to meet the team objectives.Defining and prioritising team backlogs, working closely with other engineering leads, solution engineer, product owners and programme managersYou’ll be expected to lead/oversee complex solution designs as well as supporting implementation tasks and troubleshooting activities where required.Where appropriate you’ll collaborate with architecture, delivery & operational teams to ensure you’re guided by a deep understanding of their challenges, enabling you to deliver quality solutions in line with the Society’s strategy & architecture roadmap.Working closely with the Digital Engineering and wider NBS Infrastructure teams in addition to the software development teamsYou'll work in an agile manner with programme managers, while providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers within the Engineering teams.It will be necessary to perform direct line management of up to 10 FTE (E1-3), as well as acting as a mentor or coach some of our team members.You'll help shape and develop the engineering team to ensure that we are optimally positioned to deliver our vision.About youWe are looking for someone who has:An extensive background of and experience working in digital technologies and deliveries in a senior capacity.Experience in development of and troubleshooting complex, large scale, fault tolerant systems.Must have a solid background in programming in a modern programming language such as Swift/Kotlin, .Net, React etc.Knowledge of Sencha framework or Service Mesh technologies such as Istio or Gloomesh.Must have experience in leading technical teams across the IT disciplines of Application, Test and Infrastructure.Experience in stakeholder management including influencing external departments and stakeholders.SME in mobile applications technologies and patternsDemonstrable evidence of Continuous Improvement / Continuous Delivery through Automation.Have experience of working in a complex business environment, where there is a requirement to understand the impact of own area on others and inter-dependencies both from a people and technological perspective.Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together.
