Job Title: English Teacher
Location: Colchester
Pay Rate: £160-£270 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: January to June end of school year
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

Work hours: 2 days a week Monday - Tuesday

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are hiring a qualified English Teacher for a well-regarded school located in Colchester. This role comes with a rewarding experience to make a significant impact on students' understanding and appreciation of English. Also, you will be pivotal in fostering a love for literature and language among students, helping them to achieve academic success and develop essential communication skills.

The Role:

As an English Teacher, you will play a crucial role in nurturing students’ appreciation for literature and language. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive English lessons, fostering a positive learning environment and guiding students towards academic excellence. You will also be instrumental in developing students' reading, writing and critical thinking abilities, while also preparing them for examinations and further education.

Essential qualities of an English Teacher:


  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that cater to a range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the national curriculum and educational standards.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to facilitate improvement.
  • Foster a stimulating classroom environment that encourages active participation and critical thinking.
  • Provide additional support to students who require extra help, both inside and outside the classroom and update parents and guardians on their progress.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practices and develop teaching strategies that improve student outcomes.

The successful candidate will:


  • Possess a teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).
  • Have previous experience teaching English at the secondary level.
  • Have a profound knowledge of the British curriculum and educational standards.
  • Have a passion for continuous professional development.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
