Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with an industrial engineering company that currently manufactures for the nuclear/defence sectors, to recruit an Estimator to work on their Workington site.

The Estimator role comes with a salary up to �40,000, 35 days annual leave (inc BH) and unrivalled progression routes.

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Quantity Surveyor you will:

  • Conduct estimates for manufacturing and site installation activities, both self-performed and subcontracted.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and procurement schedules during the estimating phase to secure the execution phase.
  • Prepare and cost risk registers, recognizing and bounding estimating uncertainty for complex submissions.
  • Interface with various internal approval bodies (Gate Process) to meet tender submission deadlines.
  • Monitor and deliver estimating work within sanctioned Bid Costs.
  • Provide accurate reports on estimating KPIs and progress information.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers, commercial teams, operational teams, planning department, etc.).

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience, preferably within the Nuclear, Defence, or Heavy Engineering Sectors.

Personal skills

The Estimator role would suit someone who has:

  • Good commercial awareness including delivery to budgets / timescales
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to liaise with the supply chain for BOC and subcontract items.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Salary and benefits of the Estimator role:

  • �40,000 per annum
  • Generous Pension employer - employee contribution including death in service Benefits 35 Days Holiday per year including Bank holiday.
  • Friday 5hr day
