Summary:



We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Exchange Engineer to join our team in delivering critical infrastructure installations and commissioning services within telecommunications exchanges across the UK. This role requires a strong understanding of networking equipment, fibre optic cabling, and electrical systems, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.





Responsibilities:




  • Equipment Installation: Install a variety of networking equipment, including Juniper switches, OOB equipment, and batteries, ensuring proper mounting, cabling, and labelling.

  • Electrical Work: Ground equipment, connect power cables to existing DIN rails, and ensure compliance with electrical safety standards (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).

  • Fibre Optic Testing: Conduct fibre optic tests using OTDR and power meter to verify connectivity and signal strength.

  • Equipment Configuration: Configure networking equipment according to client specifications and network requirements.

  • Patching: Connect equipment to the exchange network, ensuring proper labelling and documentation.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve any issues that arise during installation or commissioning, including fibre connectivity problems and equipment malfunctions.

  • Quality Assurance: Follow strict quality control procedures to ensure all work meets or exceeds industry standards and client expectations.

  • Documentation: Accurately record all installation and commissioning activities, including as-built documentation, test results, and photographic evidence.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, warehouse staff, and other engineers to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Safety: Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies, including those related to working in third-party exchanges.





Qualifications and Skills:





Essential:




  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification

  • FOA Certified Fibre Optic Specialist in Testing

  • EUSR Telecoms accreditation

  • SA020 accreditation

  • Experience in installing and commissioning networking equipment in data centres or telecommunications exchanges

  • Strong understanding of fibre optic cabling and testing

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
