Our highly successful client in Cardiff is looking to recruit a Field Lab Technician.
In this specialist role, the successful candidate will be travelling to customer sites throughout the UK to carry out microbiological testing activities, before taking the samples back to the state-of-the-art lab facilities in Cardiff for analysis.
Sites include oil refineries and marine engineering facilities (including offshore) and testing will involve working at heights, in all weather conditions and within confined spaces - so candidates must have the ability to carry out such duties.
You will need to be flexible with hours, sometimes involving travelling to customer site in the early hours to carry out testing then travelling back to Cardiff for analysis work. This is not a typical 9 to 5 job, however overtime payments will increase your salary.

Key Responsibilities:
- Attend client sites to collect samples and conduct microbiological surveys.
- Technical and logistical supervision of client site surveys.
- Conduct analysis of samples collected during the site visit.
- Draft/approve reports of analysis and site attendance.
- Assist in drafting Task Risk Assessments and CoSHH Assessments.
- Provide technical training on sampling techniques to customers.
Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience of scientific sampling in industrial or environmental settings.
- Practical Microbiological Lab experience with strong analysis skills.
- Ability to work confidently and independently at customer sites.
- Able to process complex processes and problem solve on-site.
- Ability to identify, assess and mitigate hazards to enable safe working.
- Ability to write technical reports and procedures which are clear and unambiguous.
- Proven ability to work both in confined spaces, at height, and offshore.
- Comfortable working outdoors all year round.
- Good manual dexterity, and the ability to conduct physical work.
- Good eyesight for visual inspection of samples and materials.
- Current and valid UK driving license.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of working in potentially hazardous industrial environments (such as refineries, storage terminals, offshore facilities, ships & dockyards).
- Experience of laboratory work and knowledge of microbiological analytical techniques.
- Knowledge of QA systems and QC procedures relevant to analysis and sampling techniques.
- GCSE level or equivalent in English & Maths
- A level or equivalent in science (preferably biological science).
- Degree in relevant scientific discipline, (microbiology preferred but not essential).
- Higher level qualification in science beneficial (preferably a biological science)
