Finance Business Partner
Location: Manchester

A leading telecommunications company is seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to join their Financial Planning & Analysis team in Manchester. The Finance Business Partner will lead the financial oversight of multiple time-based projects. This pivotal role will involve managing the financial performance of both externally awarded government contracts and key internal strategic projects.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, senior finance leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure financial targets are met, risks are mitigated, and performance is accurately tracked and reported.


Key Responsibilities: Finance Business Partner


  • Partner with Project/Contract Managers to develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Oversee and approve project-related expenditures, ensuring compliance with agreed budgets and financial protocols.
  • Identify and assess financial risks for each project, incorporating them into the company’s broader business plan and project risk register.
  • Work closely with Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) teams to ensure timely payments and receipts of funds, grants, or subsidies.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to key stakeholders, driving the efficient and cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting on financials and key performance indicators (KPIs) for inclusion in monthly board packs and other reporting frameworks.
  • Develop and refine financial models to support project management and financial planning.
  • Proactively identify any risks to project budgets, advising project managers and senior finance teams on potential mitigation strategies.
  • Track project performance using financial metrics such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) to ensure alignment with investment goals.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures to improve project profitability and enhance commercial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office (PMO) to provide financial analysis for future business cases and project proposals.
  • Support the evaluation of project claims and assist with payment reconciliations as required.


Required Skills & Experience: Finance Business Partner


  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including experience with pivot tables and complex financial formulas.
  • CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualified.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering projects within set financial parameters and timelines (experience with government contracts is highly desirable).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Previous business partner experience.
  • Proven financial modelling experience to support robust financial planning and decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
