Finance Manager/Controller - Inverness

The Financial Controller will support the Head of Finance in managing the finance department, ensuring financial standards and operational efficiencies are consistently met and improved. This role requires a focus on developing and coaching team members to deliver high-quality services to internal and external customers while upholding the vision and values of the organisation. Key responsibilities include ensuring due diligence in financial corporate governance and continuously developing financial systems and processes for greater efficiency.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Manage, support, and develop the finance team, ensuring the achievement of departmental objectives.

  • Develop and maintain finance standard operating procedures and internal controls to ensure consistency and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with leadership teams and department heads to create, maintain, and report on key financial and non-financial indicators.

  • Oversee the update and maintenance of standard costs within the organisation.

  • Manage accounting software and integration with other systems to ensure accurate reporting.

  • Supervise the processing of routine transactional data, including sales and purchase invoices, bank transactions, petty cash, accruals, prepayments, and other standard journals.

  • Control bank accounts, ensuring payments and receipts are properly managed.

  • Maintain and update operational cashflow forecasts, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals.

  • Review and present weekly finance reports to the leadership team.

  • Prepare and maintain a complete set of balance sheet and P&L monthly reconciliations.

  • Prepare and report monthly management accounts to relevant stakeholders.

  • Prepare external reports for banks, auditors, and other stakeholders.

  • Conduct trend and variance analysis, providing detailed insights to budget holders.

  • Prepare year-end accounts and audit schedules to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with leadership to build the annual business plan and prepare supplementary forecasts.

  • Prepare and submit all statutory returns, including VAT returns, PAYE, National Insurance, and Office of National Statistics submissions.

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as banks, auditors, and others as required.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with leadership and department heads.

  • Deputise for the Head of Finance and represent the finance department at cross-functional meetings when required.

  • Work collaboratively with other business units or groups to ensure cohesive financial strategy and execution.

  • Perform other typical finance responsibilities in line with good corporate governance practices.



Essential Qualifications and Experience:




  • Professional accountancy qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience working in industry.

  • Previous management experience within a finance team, with a strong background in accounting and financial systems.



The ideal candidate will be a motivated and experienced financial professional with a strong understanding of financial governance and process optimisation, along with the ability to manage and mentor a team effectively.
