Join us as a General Counsel & Compliance Officer We have an exciting opportunity for a General Counsel & Compliance Officer to join our Team, based at our Addlestone Office in Surrey. The General Counsel will act as a "partner and guardian" of the Uk Business including local dual brand companies. The General Counsel will supports all levels of management with high-quality legal and strategic advice to assure that they can achieve their strategic and operational objectives while promoting a culture of ethical business conduct and compliance with the law. They will actively drive talent development, management of legal opportunities and risks and continuous improvement. This is a permanent position and we would consider full time and part time. Duties & Responsibilities: Implement comprehensive assessment of legal risks and opportunities, as well as practical measure to mitigate risks and capture opportunities identified Manage contract reviews and contentious matters related to UK and Ireland Management of Legal Counsel/Deputy Compliance Officer, (direct report) Manage corporate housekeeping in UK and Ireland Assume the function of a compliance officer for UK and Ireland (incl. trainings on compliance matters for management and employees) Provide advice to a wide range of internal stakeholders (Managing Director, Area Management, Branch Managers, etc) Manage relations to local authorities and government Network with, instruct and supervise external law firms Monitor new legislation and legal trends Train and advise management and employees on compliance matters as well as on new legal trends and new legislation Foster a strong working relationship with the Global Legal and Compliance team regarding Group and Zone related projects, transactions and risk topics All employees are required to work in accordance with established Company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and Schindler Core Values to ensure compliance with current UK legal requirements and Schindler Group Safety requirements. Employees are required to attend all relevant Training Sessions Employees are required to carry out all works in accordance with the Company's Quality Corporate Policy Employees will be required to contribute to the Company's Safety Objectives, where necessary by maintaining/monitoring current safety systems under their direct control and implementing agreed changes (where applicable) to its Safety Management System. Top service orientation with ability to deal with difficult customers Excellent communication - verbal & written and strong interpersonal skills Good attention to detail and commercially minded Able to work under pressure and demonstrate a high level of confidentiality Candidate Requirements: Law school graduate and qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years PQE; postgraduate degree (LL.M. or MBA) is of advantage Extensive experience in commercial and corporate law, ideally also in construction law and litigation / arbitration Proven senior level credibility to build relationship and advise senior management Proven track record in managing complex contracts and projects in an international environment Demonstrated ability to make commercially astute decisions and take clear position on complex issues Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading from the front and motivating others Excellent qualifications and experience working in an analytical manner on complex legal matters Ownership of cases and projects, and ability to work proactively to achieve the set targets Ability to provide concise legal advice, even without complete information Posseses strong communication skills (written and spoken) in English Demonstrates the courage to speak robustly, yet diplomatically, as and when required Has strong integrity and ethics and able to deliver great service, even with difficult customers Ability to think creatively and develop innovative approaches and solutions Works as a highly valued business partner with a down to earth, well-organized and self-confident manner Highly reliable and has ability to also deliver under time pressure/constraints Can You Elevate Us?
