About the Role:

As a General Cover Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining learning continuity across different subject areas. Whether covering planned absences or last-minute cover needs, you will be responsible for delivering pre-prepared lessons while fostering a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere. This role is ideal for adaptable educators who can quickly establish rapport with students and staff, demonstrating confidence and professionalism in varied school environments.

Responsibilities of the General Cover Teacher:


  • Deliver engaging pre-set lessons across multiple subjects, ensuring students remain on task.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following school policies and guidelines.
  • Support student learning by providing clear explanations and responding to queries.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
  • Work collaboratively with existing staff to ensure smooth lesson transitions.
  • Provide feedback to permanent teachers on student progress and engagement.
  • Uphold safeguarding principles and contribute to a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements of the General Cover Teacher:


  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or an equivalent UK teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching in UK secondary or primary schools.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills with the ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Possess strong adaptability and resilience to manage diverse classroom settings.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the national curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Be able to establish positive relationships with students, encouraging a love for learning.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
