With the ongoing expansion of undergraduate teaching in primary care through both the roll-out of Queen's University C25 curriculum and the Ulster University Medical School, there is a need to develop an infrastructure to oversee the governance and to support the expansion of clinical education in General Practice / Primary Care. To meet this need, the Northern Ireland GP Clinical Placement Alliance (NIGPCPA) has been established. NIGPCPA is a collaborative partnership between the GP teams in the two medical schools, supported and enabled by the Department of Health. The NIGPCPA aims to support Teaching Practices and GP Tutors in the delivery of clinical education through the alignment of processes, timelines, and communications with all GP Practices in Northern Ireland. There will be four GP Locality Leads, mapping on to each of the NI Federation Support Unit areas, two of which will be employed by QUB: GP Locality Lead (Eastern area): 0.4 FTE (or 2 * 0.2FTE) GP Locality Lead (Southern area): 0.2 FTE As a GP Locality Lead you will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of primary care undergraduate medical student placements within the locality of your respective FSU, providing leadership for governance, recruitment, quality assurance and tutor development in collaboration with University partners. Whilst you will primarily be involved with the practices in your FSU locality, you will work in close collaboration with the other GP Locality Leads, and colleagues from Ulster University and Queen's University through the NIGPCPA. The GP Locality Leads would be expected to deputise for each other /cross cover leave and represent their locality at the NIGPCPA meetings. These newly created posts are for a fixed term period of 2 years. After this point, it is expected that this role will be carried out through an external GP Sub-Deanery. Successful applicants will be expected to be able to make themselves available for training and role development on the morning of the first Tuesday of each month. About the person: The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: Primary Medical Degree. Full Registration with the General Medical Council as a General Practitioner with a current license to practise. Post registration qualification (Membership of Royal College of General Practice). Registered (or eligible for registration) on the Northern Ireland Primary Medical Performers List. Clinical experience in General Practice. Substantial recent experience of teaching and/or assessment of medical students in General Practice. Experience in medical education and familiarity with the undergraduate medical curriculum. Demonstrable practical and theoretical knowledge of teaching skills, how to assess and give feedback, and how students learn.
