DescriptionSalary: 71,000Location: Greenwich Power Station, GreenwichContract Type: London UndergroundGrade:  OMQ2The role requires the manning of the station on a 24/7 365 day basis as part of a team consisting of 5 Greenwich Shift Engineers and 5 Greenwich Shift Fitters, working a 5 cycle shift pattern based on 12 hour shifts days/nights.Overview of project/roleThe Greenwich Shift Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient day to day operation and maintenance of Greenwich Generating Station, which consists of seven Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGT) with a combined output of 103MW. Greenwich Generating Station provides London Undergrounds Central Emergency Power Supply (CEPS) as part of the Safety Certificate and Safety Authorisation for operating the railway.In addition, generation is provided commercially for National at times of system stress by reducing London Undergrounds overall demand on the grid through Capacity Market and Short Term Operating Reserve contracts.The Greenwich Shift Engineer is accountable for ensuring the availability of the Gas Turbines through the delivery of routine maintenance activities and the safe operation of the Generating Stations Assets with the support of a Greenwich Shift Fitter who reports directly to them. Key Accountabilities Knowledge, understanding and compliance with London Underground and site specific Health Safety Environmental and Quality policies and procedures. Conduct Health and Safety audits/inspections.Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Generation Station Assets.Working to a safe system of work including carrying out safe isolations of the generation assets and the acceptance/issue of High Voltage and Mechanical and Electrical (Non-HV) permit to work/safety documentation. Produce and review work instructions/method statementsand risk assessments for Operational and Engineering work activities.Maintenance of the generation assets both planned and reactive to ensure continued availability. Including fault diagnostics and rectification across all three disciplines (electrical, Control and Instrumentation and mechanical).Collation of operational data required for contractual statistical information and for environmental and legislative compliance. Including contractual compliance with the stations gas supplier by submission of daily gas usage data.Line Management of the Greenwich Shift Fitter in providing supervision of/and assisting the Greenwich Shift Fitter to perform their duties where necessary.Induction and supervision of external contract staff.Skills, Knowledge & Experience SkillsMinimum qualification of a Higher National Certificate or equivalent in either an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation or Mechanical Engineering disciplineHigh voltage experience (ideally holder of a London Underground HV1 licence, but not essential)IOSH Managing Safely CertificateIT literate, able to produce, record and process data and informationTeam playerCalm under pressure, proactive and resourcefulSupervisory/line management skillsPASMA licenceIPAF licenceConfined Space entryFork lift truck drivers licenceKnowledgePower station or electrical supply industry knowledge from either an operational or maintenance perspectivePrinciples and operation of control and protection systemsSafe systems of work/safety rulesExperiencePrevious experience in a power station environment (ideally gas fired power generation but not essential) or from the electrical supply industry sectorOperation of rotating generation plant (gas or steam turbines), generators and ancillary plant/equipmentCarrying out planned and reactive maintenance on Electrical, Control and Instrumentation and Mechanical plant/equipment and systemsCarrying out high voltage switching operations and circuit isolation and earthingApplication of safe systems of work/safety rules including carrying out isolations and issue/acceptance of safety documentation (e.g. permit to work)Experience of supervising both direct and indirect staff, ideally in a team leader/supervisory roleEquality, diversity and inclusionWe are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
