Position Overview:�Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to join our grounds maintenance team in Merton. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating a team of grounds maintenance workers, ensuring tasks are completed to the highest standard and on schedule. You will play a key role in maintaining outdoor spaces, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for all users. A valid driving license is required for this position, as driving vehicles to various locations is an essential part of the role.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Lead and supervise a team of grounds maintenance workers, providing guidance, support, and motivation to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

  • Plan, allocate, and monitor daily workloads, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.

  • Ensure that grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, trimming, planting, and litter picking, are carried out effectively and safely.

  • Monitor the health and condition of outdoor areas, recommending and implementing improvements where needed.

  • Conduct regular inspections of team performance, offering constructive feedback and identifying areas for development.

  • Ensure that all team members are trained and have the necessary tools and equipment to carry out their duties safely.

  • Manage and maintain groundskeeping equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and properly stored.

  • Handle administrative duties, such as completing reports, maintenance records, and managing supplies.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe work environment for all team members.

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other departments to ensure the successful execution of grounds maintenance tasks.

  • Drive company vehicles to various sites to transport equipment and staff as needed.



Qualifications:




  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role, ideally in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.

  • A valid driving license is required to operate company vehicles and transport staff/equipment to various sites.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including mowing, pruning, planting, and turf care.

  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (training may be provided).

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously while ensuring quality standards.

  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to enforce safety practices on-site.

  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to high-quality work.



Working Conditions:




  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Includes lifting, operating machinery, and manual tasks.

  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required to meet deadlines or for special events.



The role involves frequent driving between sites, so a valid driving license is required.
