Currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) College Provision in  the London Borough of Bexley. This is a Monday to Friday position to start immediately.

The successful Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Healthcare Assistant will have experience and skills in working with children & young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and physical disabilities.

Classes in this college provision are in Travel Training, Road Safety, Independent Living, ICT, Maths & English, Personal Social Development, Sports and Leisure and Introduction to Work, Employment Preparation, Supported Internship. All LSA’s rotate so they get to know all students, the day mainly starts at 09:30 – 10:30 (20 min break where they all go to canteen with the students) 11:00 – 12:00 class (12:00 – 12:30 lunch then 12:30 – 13:00 lunch club for some students) 13:00-14:00 class (14:00 – 14:20 break) 14:20 – 15:00 class (15:00 home time for most students).

They have around 20 staff that work in class sizes of around 6 – 12 students of all varying abilities in class with counting, reading, etc.

The Job:


  • Provide 1:1 support to college students with PMLD, ASD, and physical disabilities.
  • Assist and help with all day-to-day issues relating to any students so the expectation is they can all assist in the toilet, classroom, work in groups and also with any 1:1 student that may need assistance in wheelchair, helping them cut/use pens, reading for them, help with any VI students.  Assist in the classroom setting, supporting the teacher in delivering tailored educational programs.
  • Administer medication to students as required, following school policies and procedures.
  • You must have a Child & Adult Enhanced DBS or able to pay for a new one immediately.
  • Experience using hoisting equipment safely to transfer students with physical disabilities.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene.
  • Monitor and support the overall well-being of students, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and any incidents that occur.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in SEND support.
