Head of Biology

Your new schoolI am recruiting for a head of Biology at an Excellent Private School in Cardiff. The school based in Cardiff has over 500 pupils with excellent facilities and the staff work hard to provide clear pathways for the children to succeed. There is a very welcoming and inclusive environment, and they provide a wide range of opportunities for the pupils to be creative and express themselves.
Your new role
Starting in January, you will be a key part of the dedicated Science department, made up of 11 teachers and 3 technicians. Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• Draw up schemes of work for the department and ensure they are up to date.
• Hold departmental meetings where all colleagues have an input.
• Take responsibility for departmental and self evaluation.
• Report to the director of academic studies on the performance of staff and hold members accountable in relation to performance.
• Teach KS3 - KS5 biology
• Ensure targets are met and regularly evaluated.
• Undertake parents' evenings to provide feedback.
• Liaise with other heads of departments and parents to provide any updates.
• Report on the progress of pupils in conjunction with the ALNco's plans to further pupil success.

What you'll need to succeed

• Qualified teaching Status or PCET with Science experience.
• Experience of leading a science department.
• Proven track record of helping students and staff.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Registered with the Education Workforce Council.
• Hold a DBS check on the update service or be willing to obtain one.
