The Group Corporate Finance team provides leadership and expertise across the BBC Group s activities including assessment of strategic and commercial opportunities for the Group; advice on the performance of the commercial subsidiaries and shareholder oversight of the subsidiaries; scrutiny of transaction and non-transaction corporate finance matters; consideration of the value for money the BBC delivers; assurance in the alignment of strategic, operational and financial objectives. The Corporate Finance team also leads on, contributes to and manages special projects as and when they arise across the Group. We are a centrally-based team with a strategic support, advisory and assurance focus. The nature of the team means that the role will be high profile within the BBC, regularly dealing with senior stakeholders and with colleagues in Group Finance, Strategy, Policy, Commercial and the Director-General s Office, as well as engagement with external advisory partners, government bodies and financial institutions. There are two Head of Corporate Finance roles in the Group Corporate Finance team, who lead and manage a small team of Corporate Finance Partners and Analysts. The two Head of Corporate Finance roles report directly to the BBC Group s Finance Director, Financial Planning & Insights, and take an active role in leading and delivering the activities covered by the Corporate Finance team. Main Responsibilities Group planning Establishing longer term strategic financial priorities and management of financial risk, providing effective financial advice to senior management, working closely with Group Finance, Tax and Treasury colleagues Supporting the interactions with Group Strategy, Businesses and Divisions and Senior Leadership in understanding the implications of financial transactions and activity on Group performance in the long term strategic plan regarding Group P&L performance Preparation and presentation of insightful analysis as the foundation for strategic decision-making, resource allocation and performance management Acting as a critical adviser to appraise, challenge and resolve key business initiatives and issues Corporate finance leadership Providing corporate finance expertise across the BBC Group on the assessment, structuring and negotiation of financial transactions, investments and partnerships and managing external relationships Providing effective and efficient processes for corporate financial management and setting relevant financial and operating policies Referencing and championing external and BBC-wide knowledge of best practice in corporate finance financial analysis, ways of working or driving commercial performance (including benchmarking analysis, industry monitoring and liaising with external advisers when required) Jointly leading and managing the corporate finance team to optimise their work and oversee their development The Corporate Finance team has responsibility for maintaining the Corporate Finance Models for the BBC Performance Analysis and review of financial performance, especially drivers, trends, and the competitive environment, to enhance understanding thereof on the part of management, the Board, regulators and external advisors Influencing BBC decision-makers in the shareholder oversight of the BBC s commercial subsidiaries and solving complex pan-BBC challenges. Providing assurance and delivering recommendations and solutions, based on high quality, concise and sound financial and strategic analysis Special Projects Working with stakeholders across the Group to participate in and manage special projects. The nature of these projects is varied but will typically include financial modelling and the ability to provide a range of scenarios Engaging with external advisory partners, government bodies and financial institutions Building collaborative relationships across the BBC s Finance and Senior Leadership teams, public service divisions, Group functions and commercial subsidiaries The Corporate Finance team has responsibility for the oversight and reporting of the BBC Pension Fund, including the Triannual valuation process Are you the right candidate? A background in leading corporate finance projects and providing advice to internal or external stakeholders or clients will be important. Further, a background in working with internal and external stakeholders on policy and/or strategic matters and applying corporate finance expertise in order to advise colleagues would be advantageous. Such a background would ideally include: Demonstrable corporate finance experience : Gained in an advisory (e.g. financial consultancy, boutique or investment bank), a corporate environment or in a similar organisational context to the BBC, over a number of years. Including experience in financial transactions, investments, mergers and acquisitions; financial modelling; diligence; shareholder management; equity and debt issuance; and management of deal or non-deal corporate finance activities (such as pre and post-deal planning, assessment and integration) Project leadership and management: Leading corporate finance projects to conclusion and results. Including scoping projects; establishing timelines and milestones; managing multiple processes; setting priorities and escalating issues Expertise in corporate finance analysis: Including a proven understanding of valuation methodologies and assessments, analysis of transactions, financial returns and structures and experience in developing value for money assessments Presenting and reporting : Significant experience in presenting and reporting complex analytical, shareholder and stakeholder matters to senior colleagues and external parties (including regulators or counterparties). Strong track record of providing written, formal advice on such matters at Board or senior stakeholder level Stakeholder management and partnering: Experience in influencing and persuading stakeholders, shareholders or counterparties and providing challenge, scrutiny, advice and assurance where required in relation to both transaction and non-transaction matters. Working collaboratively across organisations and with partners Team leadership and knowledge sharing: Actively leading, supporting and developing colleagues including colleagues from corporate finance and non-corporate finance career backgrounds to enable colleagues to progress their careers and acquire know-how and expertise. Package Description Band: F Contract: Continuing/Permanent Location: Salary: Up to £120,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
