Law Firm - Head of Corporate Risk & Governance
Our client is a leading full-service law firm with a strong international presence. The firm is going from strength to strength and continues to achieve strong growth in turnover, as well as improved profitability. The firm has a strong reputation in several practice areas and puts people at the centre of the business. It understands and appreciates that its success and sustainability depend on people and it has a firm commitment to ESG and sustainability.
The firm’s in-house team is at an exciting point in its development, which has created an outstanding opportunity for someone to come to support its General Counsel in the role of Head of Corporate Risk & Governance. The role will involve deputising for the General Counsel on occasions and comes about in response to the growth of the firm and the increasing regulatory demands domestically and internationally.
In this role you will report to and work closely with the General Counsel, senior business stakeholders and other "Heads of" in the team on strategic risk management, to support the firm’s growth plans. The role is also likely to involve some line management responsibility.
The focus will be on governance, ensuring compliance with professional standards and general corporate and commercial work from a regulatory perspective. The main responsibilities will include advising on governance, including drafting and advising on the LLP Members’ Agreement and other documentation, business structures, intra-group agreements, advising on office openings, legal advice on governance initiatives and terms of business and client engagement. You will also work with procurement on vendor contracts and other commercial agreements and liaise with external counsel. In short, you will undertake and whole range projects which support the firm from a corporate, commercial and regulatory perspective.
Ideally you will have trained and qualified with another leading UK firm and have at least ten years’ relevant PQE in general corporate/commercial work with significant regulatory experience, including some exposure and understanding of the SRA regulatory regime. This role will suit someone working in a similar role with another leading law or professional services firm, in-house in a heavily regulated sector or a fee-earner looking to take their experience into the risk & compliance setting.
Our client is looking for someone with credibility and initiative who can work autonomously and has strong people and communication skills, as you will be working with people at all levels within the firm, as well as leading and managing a small team.
