The role will be based at our South Mimms, Hertfordshire site with occasional remote working a possibility, dependent upon the nature of the role. Not all roles will be suitable for remote working. Who are we? The MHRA is transforming, creating a progressive, responsive and sovereign regulator of medical products that is a fundamental requirement to achieve the innovation set out in the UK Life SciencesInfrastructure and Laboratory Services (I&LS) are part of the Corporate Division and provide engineering and specialist staff to deliver a safe working environment for staff and in particular our specialist scientific facilities.  The Engineering / Maintenance Teams primarily support the plant and equipment at the South Mimms Facility.This post will provide day to day to day technical advice, support and assistance to solve mechanical problems across the site and in particular in the specialised laboratories and facilities to ensure that safe working practices are maintained.  A key area of delivery will be to ensure the planned preventative maintence programme to ensure the site meets it statutory compliance obligations is a key part of this role.  The post will be expected to support and work as part of the wider Operations Team to ensure that the South Mimms  Site is operational 24 hours a day and provide supervision to contractors and apprentices as required. Job descriptionThe post holder will lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the effective delivery of Engineering and Maintenance for the South Mimms Site. The South Mimms is a complex site with large steam distribution system that supports the state-of-the-art facilities and specialised infrastructure to deliver the Agency’s scientific programme, including high containment and clean room facilities. They will provide a high-quality customer focused engineering services 24/7 including a planned preventative maintenance programme to meet the needs of the South Mimms Site and ensure it remains safe and compliant with relevant directives and guidelines, regularly reviewing the department activities and services to continue to meet the evolving agency science strategy.Key responsibilities: Lead the Engineering team to ensure the South Mimms Site Statutory Compliance Obligations, Planned Preventative Maintenance Programme, HSE requirements and other standards and directives are met so the site is a safe place for staff to work.Develop a strategic engineering and facility plan to ensure that site continues to meet the scientific needs of the Agency and relevant regulations, directives and guidelines including the Government Property Standards.Be the Agency Lead for Engineering interactions with the HSE or other inspecting bodies and ensure the appropriate paperwork, risk assessment and safe working practices are in place and adhered to.Identify initiate, manage and deliver projects within the Engineering Dept and wider Agency (where appropriate), ensuring clear communication and contract management is in place to allow successful project delivery within a matrix management structure on time and to budget.Person specificationThe successful candidate will have extensive experience of Facility Management ideally including Steam Systems and containment laboratories. You will have a relevant scientific or technical/engineering facility management background. You will be adept at displaying leadership behaviours at a senior level and inspiring others to move things along and make things happen. You will also be an effective decision-maker acting decisively and encouraging innovative solutions and challenges from others.BenefitsAnnual Leave: 25 days annual leave on entry, rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff.
