About the Role

As Head of the English Department, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the English curriculum and fostering a love of literature and language across the school. You will lead a talented and motivated team of educators, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, and driving academic success for students at all key stages. This full-time position is set to commence in January 2025.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership and Management: Oversee the strategic direction, development, and day-to-day management of the English department. Inspire and motivate your team to deliver engaging, high-quality lessons.
• Curriculum Development: Design and implement an innovative and challenging English curriculum that caters to a diverse range of learners, promoting excellent progress and attainment.
• Teaching Excellence: Deliver outstanding lessons and model best practices in teaching and learning, ensuring your department consistently meets and exceeds performance targets.
• Staff Development: Lead and manage the professional development of department staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
• Student Progress: Monitor and evaluate student outcomes, using data-driven strategies to close achievement gaps and celebrate success.
• Collaboration: Work closely with senior leaders and other departments to contribute to the school's overall development plan and ethos.

About You

To be considered for this role, you should have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a proven track record of success in teaching English at secondary level.
• Strong leadership experience or evidence of impact in a middle leadership role.
• A deep passion for English and a commitment to inspiring young people.
• Exceptional communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
• The ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
