Post-16 College located in the London Borough of Greenwich is currently recruiting an experienced and dedicated Head of Learning Support/SEND. This is a permanent appointment to commence either after the February 2025 half term or April 2025 (for the right member of staff).

The successful Head of Learning Support/SEND will lead and manage the Learning Support department, ensuring high-quality provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role requires strong leadership, management skills, and extensive experience in handling Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This post requires someone who has a proven experience in a leadership role within a Learning Support/SEND department.  Additionally you will have sound and in-depth knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, including EHCPs. You have strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate your team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.  As an outstanding leader in this appointment you will have a commitment to promoting inclusion and equality of opportunity for all students, with experience in using data to monitor and improve student outcomes.

Leadership and Management:


  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Learning Support department, setting high expectations and standards.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of Learning Support Assistants and SEND staff, fostering a collaborative and effective working environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the department, implementing improvements where necessary.

 SEND Provision:


  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and support of students with SEND, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and practices that reflect the college's commitment to high achievement and effective teaching and learning for students with SEND.
  • Ensure that EHCPs are effectively managed, reviewed, and updated in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

 Teaching and Learning:


  • Support curriculum planning and delivery to ensure that the needs of students with SEND are met.
  • Promote inclusive teaching strategies and provide staff with guidance and training on supporting students with SEND.
  • Monitor student progress and outcomes, using data to inform interventions and support plans.

Stakeholder Engagement


  • Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students with SEND.
  • Liaise with local authorities and other relevant bodies to secure appropriate resources and support for students.
  • Represent the college at meetings and events related to SEND.

 Compliance and Administration


  • Ensure that all SEND policies and procedures are up-to-date and in line with current legislation and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for students with SEND, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Prepare reports and contribute to college self-evaluation and improvement planning processes.
