Job descriptionThe role is responsible for the quality, on-time delivery and cost of a high precision machine shop making all components for niche volume transmissions and similar items for the motorsport, automotive, defence and aerospace industries. You will manage of total team of over 140 people, including machine technicians, quality inspection, manufacturing engineers, programmers and production control. You will lead a strong technical team, executing a highly utilised and skilled workforce to improve performance in all areas of the business, whilst planning for the future introducing new machine tools and business processes/systems. Based at the company's facility in the Midlands, this role will involve occasional travel to customers, suppliers and other company sites but primarily the role is internally focused on improving the performance of the business. This is a business critical role and a vital part of the leadership team supporting directly the Managing Director.Principle Management Responsibilities of the Role (extracted from the Job Description): * Flexible assembly line construction with over 500 transmission and 90,000 components supplied per year * 5,000m2 manufacturing facility with over 70 CNC machinesNiche volume (<10,000 units per year) assembly of high-performance engines* End of Line test and pass-off of engine performance * Manufacture, assemble and test transmission systems for Motorsport, Defence and High Performance Automotive * Certifications and customers in the Aerospace market for precision transmission components * "End-to-End" capability for high performance, niche volume transmission systemsEvolution of production capabilities in both Powertrain and Driveline products and for the next generation of Zero emission products such as Battery System assembly & Fully integrated Electric Drive Units (EDU's)* "OEM quality" production for all key market sectors with engineering services capable of taking a designed product through to niche volume serial productionThis job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Knowledge of standard machining processes; Milling and Turning on multi axis, batch machining etc. Past exposure to specific geared components with gear grinding, grinding, shaping and hobbing.Involvement in CapEx and its impact on increased capacity.Strong people management skills to communicate and motivate team members taking them with you on a journey of improvement.Experience in planning and organising, with the ability to implement new processes and tools.Strong understanding of business KPIs and improving performance in all areas.Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools.Champion of specific projects/customers.Working knowledge and experience of quality systems for either automotive or aerospace.A hands-on approach with your team using your technical knowledge and experience to support problem solving.Champion Health and Safety for the business.The company is looking for as early a start date as possible for the successful candidate.
