Head of Planning

Our client, a well-established Local Authority in the South West, are currently seeking a Head of Planning to join their team under an initial contract. This role is pivotal to leading and overseeing the strategic planning functions and ensuring that service delivery meets the statutory duties of the authority while contributing to the holistic development of the Borough.

• Leading and overseeing the strategic planning function to ensure comprehensive delivery of statutory duties.
• Collaborating with the Strategic transport function to enhance the economic, social, and environmental capital of Swindon Borough.
• Strategically coordinating a range of planning functions on a day-to-day basis, ensuring modern, efficient, and effective service outcomes across the Borough.
• Contributing actively to the delivery of the Council's Priorities through strategic leadership.
• Assisting the Director in leading all aspects of strategic planning functions and department operations.
• Deputising for the Director as required, ensuring continuity and consistency in leadership.

• Experience in town planning within the relevant sector.
• Ability to strategically lead and coordinate planning functions effectively.
• Proven experience in improving economic, social, and environmental outcomes through planning.
• Strong leadership capabilities, particularly in strategic settings.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and departments.
