About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team in Derby. In this role, you will:
- Regulatory Communication: Act as a liaison with regulatory offices such as the Local Authority (LA) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
- Expert Advisory: Serve as the go-to expert on H&S compliance issues and consultant/subcontractor liability.
- Training and Development: Identify H&S training needs and coordinate programs to enhance safe practices and reinforce our HSE culture.
- Assessment Leadership: Lead COSHH Assessment, Safety Assessment, and Risk Assessment activities, including HAZID, HAZOP, etc.
- Waste Management: Support the safe disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and manage explosive licensing requirements.
- Incident Investigation: Lead incident investigations, providing comprehensive reports and corrective action plans.
- Compliance Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE regulatory requirements and ensure continuous professional development (CPD).
- Safety Culture Promotion: Collaborate with the Group HSE Manager, Site MD, and Site HSE Manager to foster a strong safety culture.
- Representation and Reporting: Represent the HSE department in meetings and audits, and deputize for the HSE Manager when needed.
- Analytical Reporting: Prepare HSE analytical statistics and regular health and safety reports, offering insights and recommendations.
- Waste Stream Management: Manage both conventional and pyrotechnic/explosives waste streams, ensuring compliant disposal and record-keeping.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with regulatory bodies and internal teams.
- Expertise in H&S training and the ability to design impactful training programs.
- Proven leadership in conducting assessments and managing risk.
- Experience in waste management and compliance with disposal regulations.
- A proactive approach to incident investigation and reporting.
- A solid understanding of HSE regulatory requirements and a commitment to CPD.
- The ability to foster a positive safety culture and engage employees at all levels.
- Analytical skills to prepare detailed reports and provide actionable insights.
