About The Role
Role: Healthcare Assistant
Location: Jarvis Breast Centre, Guildford, Surrey
Salary: £22,308 - £25,000 pro rata
Hours: 30 hours per week
InHealth is the largest NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) provider in England and our Surrey and North East Hampshire (also known as ‘the Jarvis)’ Breast Screening Service (BSS) that has an eligible population of approximately 186,000 women invited to screening over a 3-year screening round, is the largest of all our breast screening services in England.  The staffing structure has over fifty members of staff.
The static breast screening unit is located at the Jarvis Breast Centre and provides screening and assessment service. Screening is also carried out on five mobile units covering a large geographical area throughout Surrey and North East Hampshire.  Screening patients are referred to six NHS Trusts for surgical and oncological treatment.
What you will do:
As a Healthcare Assistant you will support a professional and patient-focused service, working alongside your clinical colleagues in our dynamic and fast-paced unit. You will contribute to the smooth running of the clinics and assist clinicians before, during and after procedures. As an integral part of our clinical support team, your skills as a Healthcare Assistant will help us to deliver on our vision to make healthcare better. 
 
What you are responsible for:
  • Support in providing quality, professional care to women undergoing breast assessment investigations, under the supervision of the breast care nursing team
  • Act as a patient advocate to ensure both privacy and dignity for the patient
  • Preparing equipment for clinical procedures and chaperoning as required
  • Supporting patients post procedure and reporting any concerns to the relevant staff
  • To support person-centred care, equality and diversity 
  • Demonstrating safe, effective practice in line with National guidelines and InHealth policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe clinical environment in line with the Company’s Health and Safety and Infection Control
  • Help with managing an unpredictable workload, acting professionally under pressure
  • Clarify patient’s identification and accurately enter data into patient and clinical records
  • Adhering to the requirements of the Data Protection Act (#####) ensuring confidentiality of information 
  • To monitor and replenish clinical stock and documentation, rotating and topping up stock as necessary
  • To report stock requirements and shortages of any kind to the nursing team
  • To assist with ordering items via the InHealth procurement system
  • Cleaning, monitoring and tidying equipment as directed and reporting any problems or malfunctions to a senior member of staff
  • Participate in personal development, appraisals, mandatory training and attending team meetings and audits as required
  • Be prepared to occasionally travel for training courses

You should apply if you have experience:
  • Working in a healthcare environment
  • Dealing with people and knowing how to handle situations effectively and sensitively
  • Understanding of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (desirable)
  • NVQ qualification or willingness to undertake (desirable)
  • Understanding of importance of health promotion (desirable)
