Key Responsibilities for the Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA):

As a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA), your primary duties will include but are not limited to:


  • Assisting in delivering high-quality care to patients, ensuring their physical, emotional, and mental well-being is attended to at all times
  • Supporting patients with daily activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, and mobility.
  • Working under the guidance and supervision of a Mental Health Nurse to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients
  • Observing and recording changes in patient conditions and reporting these to the relevant healthcare professional
  • Monitoring patient progress and assisting with the administration of medication, as well as keeping accurate and detailed records
  • Following healthcare protocols and policies to ensure patient safety and well-being
  • Supporting patients in rehabilitation programs, encouraging independence and promoting the best possible outcomes
  • Ensuring the patient’s environment is safe, hygienic, and conducive to their recovery
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery

Being a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA) means your role is integral to the smooth running of the care environment. You will need to be observant, compassionate, and proactive in providing the best possible care and support to patients.

Candidate Requirements:

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:


  • Valid UK Visa: You must hold a valid UK visa that enables you to work more than 20 hours per week
  • In-date UK DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Check: It is vital that you have a current and in-date DBS to ensure patient safety and compliance with healthcare standards
  • Practical Training: You must have completed the following practical training:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Manual Handling
    • Fire Safety
    • Conflict Resolution

  • Immunisation Report: You must provide an immunisation report that demonstrates immunity to the following:

    • Hepatitis B
    • Measles, Mumpsm and Rubella
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • BCG (Tuberculosis)
    • COVID-19

  • Bild Accredited P.M.V.A. (Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression) Certificate: An in-date P.M.V.A. certificate is essential for candidates applying for the Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA) position
  • Mental Health Experience: Prior experience working under the supervision of a Mental Health Nurse within the past 6 months is required. This experience is essential to demonstrate your ability to work effectively in mental health settings and with patients who may have mental health needs
