Job Title: Healthcare Assistant (Night Shift)

Location: Wandsworth

Salary: £13-£15 PAYE per hour

Contract Type: Temporary/Permanent

Working Hours: 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Monday to Thursday

We are currently recruiting for a specialist SEN School with a dedicated residential unit providing 24-hour care for students with complex needs. The students require high levels of support to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. The unit are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to work night shifts and support students in a calm, nurturing, and structured environment.

The School are located in Wandsworth. This is an ongoing, long-term role to start as soon as possible and will be with a view to going permanent. The rate of pay will be between £13-£15 PAYE per hour depending on skills and experience.

To be considered for this role, you will need experience supporting people with special educational needs such as PMLD and epilepsy. You will also need a certificate in safe handling of medications and experience with peg feeding, suction and oxygen.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort, safety, and well-being of students throughout the night. You will provide personal care, administer medication, and support students with their individual health and emotional needs, promoting a restful and secure environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide overnight care and support to students with complex needs.
  • Assist with personal care, including toileting, washing, and dressing where required.
  • Monitor and respond to medical needs, following care plans and school policies.
  • Administer medication as required (training will be provided).
  • Ensure the residential environment remains safe, clean, and comfortable throughout the night.
  • Respond to any disturbances or emergencies calmly and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records and hand over relevant information to day staff.
  • Offer reassurance and emotional support to students who may struggle with sleeping.
  • Work collaboratively with other night staff to ensure the highest standard of care.

Person Specification


  • Previous experience in a healthcare or SEN setting is essential.
  • A caring, patient, and compassionate approach to working with young people.
  • Ability to remain alert and responsive throughout night shifts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow care plans and adapt to students' individual needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • A willingness to undergo relevant training, including safeguarding, first aid, and medication administration.
