Higher Scientific Officer - Protein Production, Purification and Surface Plasmon Resonance External Advertising End Date Advertising End Date: Higher Scientific Officer - Protein Production, Purification and Surface Plasmon Resonance Key Information Salary : Commencement on the salary range is subject to comparable skills and experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review. This role is eligible for ICR Sponsorship. Support will be provided for costs associated with Visa application. If you are considering relocating to the UK, further information can be found here . Duration of Contract : Fixed Term for 2 years Hours per week : 35 hours per week (Full Time) Closing Date : 14th July 2024 A Higher Scientific Officer (HSO) position is available in Dr Rob van Montfort s Hit Discovery and Structural Design Team within the CCDD, to strengthen our research in targeted protein degradation as part of our Centre for Protein Degradation (CPD). The team uses biochemical and biophysical assays to perform small-molecule high-throughput screening and fragment-based hit discovery, coupled with X-ray crystallography to enable structure-based drug design. These methodologies are underpinned by state-of-the art protein expression, purification and biophysical characterisation capabilities, allowing the generation and characterisation of high-quality recombinant preparations of proteins under study. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in protein expression, protein purification and biophysics, especially in Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). Key Requirements The successful candidate will be responsible for the expression and purification of proteins studied in the CPD. In addition, they will be responsible for establishing Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and other relevant biophysical assays such as Thermal Shift Assay (TSA) and ligand-observed NMR (LO-NMR) to characterise their protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. The HSO will be integral members of a multidisciplinary project team within the CPD and CCDD at the Sutton campus of the ICR, and will interact closely with biologists, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, assay scientists and structural biologists. Applicants must have at least a BSc in a biochemistry or related biological subject, and ideally an MSc or PhD. Experience and demonstrable skills in molecular biology, protein expression in E. coli and protein purification are essential. Demonstrable practical experience of biophysical techniques, especially SPR, is also a requirement. Experience in protein expression in insect and/or mammalian cells is highly desirable. Department/Directorate Information The Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery (CCDD), within the Division of Cancer Therapeutics, is a multidisciplinary 'bench to bedside' centre, comprising around 160 staff dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The CCDD s exciting goal is to discover high quality small molecule drug candidates and to progress these to clinical trial. All the scientific disciplines are in place to make this possible, including medicinal chemistry, biology, structural biology, assay scientists, drug metabolism and clinical specialists. This is an exciting and fast-moving research setup and offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. We encourage all applicants to access the job pack attached for more detailed information regarding this role. Please DO NOT send your application to Dr van Montfort or Dr Le Bihan, but apply via the e-recruitment system on our website www.icr.ac.uk . About The Institute of Cancer Research Why work for us? As a member of staff, you'll have exclusive access to a range of staff benefits . The ICR is committed to supporting overseas applicants applying for roles, please click here to find out further information. The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world's most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. Further information about working at the ICR can be found here . We look forward to receiving applications from all candidates, wherever in the world they are currently based. We will select those who display the potential to become, or to support, the world leading cancer researchers of the future based on their application and performance at interview. However, we particularly welcome British applicants from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, as they are under-represented within the ICR and nationwide in STEM roles. #J-18808-Ljbffr
