Highway Engineer (Asset Management)
Location: Hybrid Depot & Home (Depot likely in Hook)
Contract: 3-6 months (37 hours per week)
Pay: Up to £41.80 per hour (PAYE £28.86 | Umbrella £38 | LTD £41.80)
Myn is looking for an experienced Highway Engineer (Asset Management) to join our long-term clients team in the South East of England. If you have a background in designing and delivering highway maintenance projects, we want to hear from you!
The Role This is a hands-on role where you will: Design planned maintenance schemes for carriageways and footways, with some structural drainage work.
Lead projects from concept to completion, ensuring effective design, planning, and delivery.
Provide technical expertise throughout the construction phase.
Work closely with stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to agree on solutions that meet budgetary and environmental requirements.
Prepare estimates and works orders for maintenance and minor improvement schemes.
Monitor budgets and finalise accounts for authorisation.
Represent the council in public meetings and consultations, advising councillors when required.
Supervise and support junior engineers, ensuring high technical standards.
Assist in achieving business plan objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.
What Were Looking For Qualification: RQF Level 4 or a degree in a relevant field.
Professional Status: Incorporated Engineer or equivalent experience.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of highway design standards, maintenance procedures, and contract management (preferably NEC Term Service Contract).
Experience: Proven track record in designing, managing, and supervising highway maintenance works.
Decision Making: Ability to assess feasibility, solve design/site issues, and negotiate works with stakeholders.
Safety & Compliance: Ensuring all works meet health and safety regulations.
Driving Licence: Essential, as site visits are required.
Working Conditions Hybrid working a mix of depot, home, and site visits.
Some out-of-hours work may be required during emergencies, flooding, or extreme weather conditions.
