HLTA

Location: Wirral

Pay: £95- £115 dependent on payroll choice
Sector: Independent Special Needs School

We are seeking an experienced Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team at an independent special needs school on the Wirral. This is a great opportunity to support students in a nurturing environment, helping them to reengage with their education, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.

About the School:

This small provision supports young people aged 11-14 who have faced disruptions in their education. The school provides a multi-agency approach to learning, combining academic support with emotional development through tailored therapy and strategies.

With a capacity of 32 students (currently 12 on roll), the school offers small class sizes (3-5 pupils) and a high staff-to-student ratio. Students also participate in enriching activities such as horse riding, team-building, and vocational training in beauty and hairdressing.

Your Role as an HLTA:

  • Lead small group and 1:1 sessions to support students with their learning and emotional development.
  • Work closely with teachers to plan, deliver, and assess lessons in line with the school's curriculum.
  • Provide support for students with emotional and behavioural challenges, using tailored strategies to help them manage their emotions and thrive.
  • Assist with life skills activities and vocational training.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage the development of social and communication skills.
  • Help maintain a structured and supportive learning environment for all students.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working as a HLTA or in a similar role with students with additional needs.
  • Strong knowledge of educational support strategies and the ability to adapt to individual student needs.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a proactive approach to supporting students' growth.
  • Ability to promote positive behaviour and foster a nurturing learning environment.
