We are a turnkey Health, Safety and Environmental solution provider and offer a range of support from Health, Safety and Environmental Professionals, Training, PPE provision and general support to multiple heavy industrial, energy and construction sectors across the UK.

Aims and Objectives for the HSE Advisor role:




  • To advise and be responsible for all HSE matters internally.

  • Mobilise onto various projects to represent Shoal as the Principal Contractor on site, as well as to provide short term cover for our existing HSE Consultants as required.

  • Support internal HSE Manager and Directors in all matters pertaining to the above.



Main Responsibilities :




  • Demonstrate leadership and a commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE). Actively encourage both internal teams and external project teams to implement and comply with any and all HSE requirements.

  • Ensure that works within area of responsibility are executed in accordance with relevant legislation and/or contracts.

  • Advise and support in all HSE matters at all levels within the organisation, site and/or project.

  • Take a proactive approach to Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) and be confident to drive cultural change through behavioural safety.

  • Intervene in a positive and persuasive manner in HSE matters on site and ensure HSE standards are adhered to on site by all within scope.

  • Ensure that risk assessments are reviewed with regards to all relevant HSE regulations and site requirements and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS.

  • Support in compliance of Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRA).

  • Support in the elimination or mitigation of HSE hazards to the extent practicable.

  • Undertake incident investigations in line with assigned organisations investigation procedure and be competent with root cause analysis.

  • Undertake incident investigations where appropriate.

  • Gather information for senior managers to comply with the law.

  • Undertake internal inspections and audits of HSE standards and the work practices employed.

  • Liaise with other HSE professionals (both internal and external) in order to achieve and promote a positive HSE culture.

  • Assist in emergency response at site, where directed, in line with relevant emergency response policies and procedures.

  • Undertake site HSE inductions as required and provide regular HSE information for new employees, subcontractors and/or visitors.

  • Ensure the HSE content of training provided by any assigned organisation is up to date, relevant and task/risk specific.

  • Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to HSE and responsibilities.



Professional Qualifications (specific qualifications will be identified for each specific job role guide provided below)



Internationally Recognised Health and Safety qualification, or working towards (minimum level 3 i.e. NEBOSH General Certificate, or NEBOSH Construction for Health and Safety Professionals and/or NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety Practice, or IOSH equivalent.)



Additional working knowledge that would be required for the role:




  • The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, 2015.

  • The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, 1999.

  • Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974.
