We’re looking for a HSE Specialist (Occupational Health and Safety). Based at our Capenhurst location you’ll be the Capenhurst Sites Subject Matter Expert for occupational health and safety, you will lead the development of arrangements for the practical and pragmatic implementation of applicable law, relevant good practice and business requirements and provide safety management leadership, assisting the Capenhurst site in achieving excellent standards of occupational health and safety management.

What you’ll do:
• Providing pragmatic and useful advice and guidance in occupational health and safety, including mental health and wellbeing. This requires collaborative working with, and continual intelligence gathering from around the Capenhurst site, building constructive relationships with a wide range of interested parties.
• Provides technical input to support the development of training needs analyses, learning objectives and training content and competence assessment appropriate to management of occupational health and safety on the site.
• Provide technical expertise to the development and implementation of a management system which ensures compliance with relevant law, and company and industry requirements, with specific accountability to the legal aspects of occupational health and safety in the workplace. Provision of advice on the practical implementation within the Capenhurst companies.
• Acts as contract manager and Intelligent Customer as required for relevant contracts owned by the HSE service.
• Develops and implements appropriate performance indicators and reporting tools, , in collaboration with the Business Support Services function. Ensure external (including regulatory) reporting requirements are met in the field of occupational health and safety.
• Provide advice and challenge to leadership across the Capenhurst site in terms of site performance in occupational health and safety, including working collaboratively with other areas of the businesses at Capenhurst to identify and implement learning and improvement strategies and activities. Act as a coach and mentor to others across site in the area of occupational health and safety.
• Delivers a range of generic HSE activities as required by departmental management, including leading and contributing to investigations, audits and inspections, continual improvement etc
What do you need to thrive in this role?
• NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
• NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health and Safety
• Chartered member of relevant professional institute (or a commitment to work towards)
• Appropriate instruction in conducting investigations, as well as Root Cause Analysis (or a comitment to work towards).
• Experience of working with and/or developing Integrated Management Systems or Safety Management Systems
• Previous, proven experience of providing health and safety advice in an industrial environment
• Ability to coach and support learning in the working environment, to support the development of individuals, and the cross functionality of the wider HSE team
• Organised and fully autonomous, able to programme and prioritise work, coordinating effort with others and keeping leadership informed of progress and obstacles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including: ability to explain concepts in simple terms, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation ability to gain trust and engagement with disperate parts of the site. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point.
