Newcastle City Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join our dynamic Initial Response Team. We are committed to safeguarding children and providing high-quality support to vulnerable families.

About the Role:

You will be part of a team dedicated to:


  • Providing timely and effective responses to referrals received by the Children's Social Care service.
  • Conducting initial assessments of children and families, identifying their needs and risks.
  • Developing and implementing appropriate plans of action, ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
  • Working collaboratively with families, children, and other agencies to deliver timely and effective support.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation, adhering to relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the team's service delivery.

Responsibilities:


  • Receive and screen referrals for children in need of support, conducting initial assessments and prioritizing cases based on risk and need.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families, identifying their strengths, needs, and risks.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans, including interventions and support strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with families, children, and other professionals, including schools, health services, and the police, to deliver timely and effective support.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the team's service delivery.

Key Requirements:


  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, BA Hons in Social Work, or equivalent).
  • Social Care England registration.
  • Updated DBS check.
  • Experience working within a Children's Social Care service, particularly in an initial response or assessment role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands.
  • Commitment to child-centered practice and a commitment to improving the lives of children and families.
