Your new companyA leading NHS Trust and healthcare provider committed to delivering high-quality patient care across three main sites in South West England. With over 6,000 staff and a budget of nearly £600m per annum, this Trust is dedicated to serving a community population of approximately 500,000 people, and many more during the busy summer months.We are seeking a qualified solicitor or barrister to support the inquest work with the Trust on an interim basis. Initially, the duration of the assignment is anticipated to be 3-4 months, although there is a high possibility of extension. Notice period: 1 week.Your new roleAs the Interim Head of Legal / Legal Services Manager, you will be the principal expert on clinical negligence claims within the Trust. Reporting to the Director of Integrated Governance, you will manage a team responsible for handling claims, inquests, and Court of Protection applications. Your role will involve leading the management of clinical negligence and personal injury claims, representing the Trust at inquests, and providing healthcare law advice to clinicians and managers. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant protocols and legislation, and for managing the legal team’s budget of £13m.What you'll need to succeedSolicitor or Barrister with a current England & Wales practising certificate.Several years PQE, with practical experience in conducting inquests and providing representation. Experience in managing clinical negligence claims and a robust understanding of NHS Resolution requirements are essential.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. Strong IT skills and the ability to manage a broad and voluminous workload effectively.Approachable, adaptable, and flexible with excellent team-playing skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and a willingness to undertake all training requirements.What you'll get in returnSalary: £74,290 (Annual Leave: Minimum of 27 days plus bank holidays.Flexible Working: Hybrid/remote, with occasional attendance for high-profile/complex cases.
