Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive IT Category Manager to join a leading University in the North East of England. This role will focus on supporting the university's IT procurement strategy by managing IT-related purchasing activities, consolidating spend, and working closely with key stakeholders to ensure effective budget management and alignment with university goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support IT procurement activities across the University, ensuring alignment with the organisation's IT strategy and objectives.
  • Consolidate IT-related spend across various departments and ensure effective budget management.
  • Collaborate with IT stakeholders, including technical teams, to understand purchasing needs and drive value through strategic sourcing.
  • Provide expertise to streamline IT procurement processes and ensure compliance with university policies.
  • Work closely with category managers and other teams to ensure IT purchasing aligns with broader university objectives, including innovation and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve any procurement-related issues.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Proven experience in IT procurement, category management, or similar roles within higher education or large public/private organisations.
  • Strong understanding of IT procurement processes, including hardware, software, and IT services.
  • Experience using procurement platforms and managing budgets effectively.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic data analysis
  • Proven track record of cost savings.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple IT procurement projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of IT industry trends, and the ability to assess and recommend technology solutions that benefit the university.
Contract Details:
  • 6-month temporary contract.
